15 Headlines Show How Differently The British Press Treat Meghan Markle Vs Kate Middleton
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked the public when they announced on January 8 that they were leaving their position as senior members of the royal family. One of the most notable changes they're making is to deny a group of British press outlets first access to their personal press releases after years of press coverage and editing decisions that they feel have been unfair, filled with favoritism, and aimed to turn public opinion against Meghan in particular.
Since the announcement, journalists unearthed some of the British media’s most snide and judgmental headlines about Meghan and put them next to what the same outlets—sometimes even the same authors—thought of similar situations when fellow Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton was involved. Here are some of the things that British journalists only seemed to think were wrong once the former British royal family member Meghan did them. (h/t buzzfeed)

Kate and William: "Prince William was given one of the green fruit – wrapped up in a bow – by a little boy who's mother is suffering during her pregnancy too... 'He said he'd take it to [Kate] and see what happens – and said good luck for [the boy's] mummy.'" Express: Sept. 14, 2017
Meghan: "The pregnant Duchess of Sussex and so-called 'avocado on toast whisperer' is wolfing down a fruit linked to water shortages, illegal deforestation and all round general environmental devastation." Express: Jan. 23, 2019
In 2016, shortly after the pair began dating, Prince Harry issued an official statement condemning the media’s coverage of Meghan. Among his complaints were one newspaper’s quips and tone-deaf euphemisms about her race and class background.
Since then, many have continued to speculate that the media’s general bias against her comes from resistance to accepting a mixed-race American into what upper-class white British people feel is an exclusive cultural institution like the British royals.
If they were "toxic" why would they put them on a child's head??? Let alone an heir to the British throne??? Just curious...
Kate: "It was reported that new Duchess of Cambridge requested her favorite scented candles and toiletries from luxury fragrance brand Jo Malone be delivered to scent the Abbey. A selection of candles, handwashes and lotions was requested, specifically in citrus spring scents including Orange Blossom, Grapefruit and the ever-popular Lime, Basil & Mandarin." Daily Mail: May 4, 2011
Meghan: "'Meghan wanted staff to go around with these atomizers, like spritzer guns, and spray the chapel with scent before anyone arrived. Royal Household staff stepped in and told her office politely, but firmly, that this was the queen's chapel and it simply wasn't appropriate. I don't believe they said no because they thought it could affect the chapel in any way. It was simply the principle of the thing. This is a place that has held royal weddings, funerals and even contains the royal vault. I don't believe a request of that nature had been made before.'" Daily Mail: Nov. 30, 2018
Kate: "We see a woman in her prime: stylish, confident and positively radiant, nailing outfit after outfit in the style stakes — and it’s a joy to witness... That old uniform of girlish dresses, tan tights and nude heels has been replaced by dazzling super-chic outfits to satisfy even the most exacting fashionista." Daily Mail: June 16, 2019
Meghan: "Proper royalty is about tradition and duty, self-effacing service and loyalty — year after year after year, season after season... That is not to say that a monarchy cannot or must not move with the times — simply that it has to resist the temptation to be buffeted by passing cultural trends. Fashion is the exact opposite. And as fashion’s most famous bible, Vogue exemplifies the transient nature of the beast." Daily Mail: July 29, 2019
Her husband has been her #1 supporter since bringing her into the royals, joining her to sue a British tabloid for infringing on her privacy in 2018.
At the same time, he released a scathing statement comparing the press’ treatment of her to that of his mother, Princess Diana, who died in a car accident while trying to escape from meddling photographers after years of being tormented by invasive journalists.
This year, it looks like the couple decided that strongly worded letters weren’t making a difference and they’re now setting off to teach the British press a lesson by cutting ties officially.
Kate and William: "Creating their own companies will allow William and Kate to bring out, should they ever chose to, myriad items of officially-endorsed merchandise from tea towels to coffee cups... Kensington Palace officials said they were doing the ‘sensible thing’ in protecting the couple’s rights." Daily Mail: Jan. 17, 2014
Meghan and Harry: "The Sussexes want to stamp their name on dozens of products including T-shirts, hoodies, journals and gloves for their newly-created foundation Sussex Royal... Experts said Harry and Meghan were actively preparing to quit the Royal Family months ago by filing trade mark applications to commercially protect their brand." Daily Mail: Jan. 9, 2020
How much of the Meghan shaming is covert racism, I wonder? (I note "Tea Towels" as respectable, and "hoodies" are not)
Kate: "Royal sources said yesterday that the Queen understood and endorsed William and Kate’s decision not to spend Christmas Day with her. One said: ‘Her Majesty understands that it is a dilemma that many young couples face and acknowledges how close Catherine’s relationship is with her family." Daily Mail: Dec. 16, 2016
Meghan: "The fact is the Queen expects to have the family around her for the festive season... to the Queen, for whom the tradition of the family gathering is a key date in her calendar, Harry and Meghan’s absence will be a matter of great sadness. It will also be a source of frustration." Daily Mail: Nov. 13, 2019
Kate and William: "Prince William yesterday backed brother Harry’s brave admission of his mental anguish — and blasted the monarchy’s 'stiff upper lip' tradition... William said: 'There may be a time and a place for the ‘stiff upper lip’ but not at the expense of your health... ' "'Catherine and I are clear we want both George and Charlotte to grow up feeling able to talk about their emotions and feelings. Over the past year we have visited a number of schools together where we have been amazed listening to children talk about some quite difficult subjects in a clear and emotionally articulate way, something most adults would struggle with. Seeing this has really given me hope things are changing and there is a generation coming up who find it normal to talk openly about emotions.'” Sun: April 19, 2017
Meghan and Harry: "Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have bucked royal tradition once again with their latest TV interview — in which they claimed they were 'existing, not living.' The couple ditched the stiff upper lip of previous Royal Family generations and flew the flag for 'Generation Therapy' as they revealed their emotions to the world - but were they right to do so? "What you make of 'fragile' Prince Harry and Meghan's comments may depend on your generation. Sun parents and kids reveal what they think of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex airing their emotions in public - and whether they have the right to moan in such positions of privilege..." Kate: "It is a fashion conundrum not many of us will ever face, but what exactly does one wear for tea with the Queen? The Duchess of Cambridge met this challenge head on yesterday by co-ordinating her outfit with the Queen’s powder blue ensemble... The Queen, on her first official event to mark her Diamond Jubilee, was dressed in a pastel hat and two-piece coat dress with military-style rows of gold buttons designed by Angela Kelly. Looking relaxed and elegant, her outfit was perfect for what looked like a fun official engagement with the girls." Mirror: Feb. 14, 2013
Meghan: "The Queen's aides had told [Meghan] she would be wearing a green hat as a mark of respect to those who died in the Grenfell Tower fire. The Queen is said to have been 'baffled' when Meghan turned up without a hat as she didn't realize she was supposed to wear one too. A senior aide said: 'I don't think the Duchess fully understood. This was not a request. Those are for others to make, not the Queen.' The Queen's staff are said to have noted the Duchess's mistake or 'lack of deference'" Mirror: Oct. 29, 2018
A photo which was liked a lot at the time and many in the press were saying that The Queen was getting on very well with the Duchess of Sussex.
Imagine writing an entire article about somebody's shoes instead of focusing on more important issues that are going on in the world.
Kate and William: "The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh missed the small family affair. The decision is understood not to have been taken on health grounds, and to have been mutually agreed by the Queen and the Cambridges some time ago. The Queen, 92, has a busy week ahead, with high-profile celebrations in central London marking the centenary of the RAF on Tuesday, and a visit by US President Donald Trump in Windsor on Friday." Daily Mail: July 9, 2018
Meghan and Harry: "The situation has surprised some senior staff at Buckingham Palace, who feel that the duke and duchess should have planned the day better. ‘There is huge support for the couple in not wanting to conform to tradition. They are young, they are striking out on a different path from other members of the Royal Family and there is enormous goodwill for them. But they shouldn’t do that without regard for tradition,’ said one. ‘Her Majesty was already scheduled to be in Scotland for her annual Holyrood Week and had a prior engagement at the weekend. There is a feeling amongst some that they should have been more accommodating about the date.’" Daily Mail: July 4, 2019
Kate: "As far as bridal bouquets go there was nothing particularly regal about Kate Middleton’s modest arrangement of simple, seasonal flowers. Like the bride herself the bouquet was effortlessly elegant and understated. "Yet behind that modest posy lay a secret story. Kate, the commoner-turned-duchess, had painstakingly selected blooms with real meaning. She is evidently well-versed in the language of flowers, a little-known romantic relic from the 19th century. "Hence the use of lilac in her bouquet, which signifies the first emotions of love, the lily of the valley meaning a return of happiness, hyacinth standing for constancy, myrtle meaning love and the ivy, which represents fidelity. Then of course there was the suitably named Sweet William, which is shorthand for gallantry." Express: Aug. 29, 2011
Meghan: "[Meghan Markle] was holding a wedding bouquet which flowers were replicated in Princess Charlotte and the other bridesmaids’ flower crowns. Express.co.uk can now reveal the children’ crowns were made of flowers that can be deadly, especially for children. Meghan’s bouquet was made of forget-me-nots as well as sweet peas, lily of the valley, astilbe, jasmine, and astrantia... "Lily of the valley is a highly poisonous woodland flowering plant and ingestion could be deadly... As Meghan’s bridesmaids were so young, having this flower on their heads could be considered a dangerous decision. Other brides have also used this flowers including Kate Middleton, Princess Eugenie and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall." Express: Oct. 13, 2019
Nasty and vile. I don't know why anyone thinks they can claim people's lives for better or worse. Harry and Meghan made a great decision ditching this life.
Let's hope that it means the media will back off. They ram it down our throats until we are sick of the sight of them all.
Load More Replies...The British press are notorious for spreading lies, rumours and being completely vile. I'm ashamed to be British when I see these headlines. Harry took it when they destroyed his Mother, he's not going to take it now that he's happily married with a child.
Oh its not just the British press. Even in America the press also has special donor interest they play to.
Load More Replies...You seem to be forgetting all the hate Kate went through in the early days of her relationship with William; when her clothes were criticised, she and her family were dragged through the mud with the press digging for any dirt. She had the French press take long lens photos of her topless and try to sell them all over the world. She has now been with William 18 years, as they got together at uni... and the press have got over their issues with her as she has proved herself hard working and unshakable (in public that is) All wives and girlfriends of major royals have Ben through press hatred... Diana, Sarah, Sophie, Kate, (and Autumn to some extent) and now Meghan. I'm. It saying it's right, it's totally unacceptable; but it happens!
I think it is about the hypocrisy. There are examples the other way around too. Waity Katy, her being workshy and keen Kate come to mind. It's not about these women as much as it is about these tabloids.
Load More Replies...Another thing I noticed in those headlines - Meghan is rarely called by her title Duchess of Sussex. Though Kate is also a commoner, she is called Duchess of Cambridge way more.
The papers rarely call either woman by their correct title - not that I think it matters. Kate was disliked intensely to begin with. Camilla was universally loathed but now things have settled. To be honest Meghan was actually welcomed and everyone talked about what a breath of fresh air she was to start with - she has bucked the trend and gone from that to being immensely unpopular. People wanted Harry to have a happy ending. It's all gone wrong that's for sure.
Load More Replies...So, first off, I do think the negative comparisons are stupid and hurtful and shouldn't be a thing. But I note that all of the Meghan-slamming rags are TABLOIDS, not legit journalism, and they go for sensationalism and spectacle. They don't even pretend to be unbiased. I'm not the least bit surprised they have a favorite (although it's horrible and petty). Meghan has been treated poorly for sure. But Kate faced a lot of scrutiny and harshness in her early-relationship years with William. It's unfair how ALL of them are bullied by the tabloids (Princess Margaret, anyone?).
It's nasty, but let's not forget how the british press treated Kate before she was married to William. I'm sure racism plays a big part in this, but it's probably equal parts misogyny.
Misogyny? Do you need a C.A.T. scan? These were side by sides of their treatment of one woman vs another woman. As for the other, we always have to make everything about race, eh? Only racists do that. You just did that. Also, many people have pointed out that Kate was tortured in the media when she was new to the scene as well. Plus this chick is an American actress. Not exactly bleeding blue there. You'd rather have it be about racism and sexism though. Good for you.
Load More Replies...This isn’t totally representative of the coverage of Kate. Before they married, the tabloids went to town on her student days, and family and when she suffered bad morning sickness they treated her as a malingerer. The tabloids are intrusive and vile to all women. Particularly famous and royal ones.
Which is why I fervently hope Harry and Meghan nail the lot of them to the wall. :)
Load More Replies...I'm Canadian and therefore part of the Commonwealth. Sorry, American Pandas, you can't join because of your little spat over tea. ;-) I think the Royal Family are hard working and dedicated. Queen Elizabeth did a courageous job in the war and really is an amazing person. BUT! I think monarchy is wrong and it's time we got rid of it.
They are!!! I'm just concerned about the amount Canadian taxpayers are going to have to pay for the family's security. I understand that they need it, but I think it's something like $1.7 million per year. That's a lot of money that should be spent on ... well, so many things.
Load More Replies...Now, the press is not being nice anymore to Meghan (they really were in the beginning though! The wedding and the romance and it was all quite positively described - don't know what changed that.. a bit too often missing protocol?) - but these so called side by side comparisons are of such different events in all but one case that this is as damaging as the press is.
I am sure there is a great deal of racism on social media, but the driver behind the tabloid coverage is salaciousness not racism. She’s young, beautiful and female and the public can’t get enough of that. The royal boyfriends and husbands dont have the press examining their clothes, bodies, expenditure, families, every utterance etc. There was even an article in the Daily Mail about her toes! This is very much an obsession with women. And the narrative they are pushing is the ancient misogynist one of her being the wicked queen.
I'm American, but I've got so many ties across the pond and that's where my heart really is. That being said, most of my English friends have said that, "Mother and Father aren't getting along" - meaning Britain doesn't see us in the kindest light right now. I've actually seen a lot of Americans, "Yanks", get harassed and it isn't the friendly ribbing we used to get. Mind you, this is younger people (20's to late 30's), so perhaps it isn't this way for the older generations. The thing is that to them we're the stereotype of "'Murica". We ruin stuff. And now Murica is taking over the Royal Family. So sadly, yes, a lot of it is that Meghan is American, so you can't blame her for wanting to leave a place where she hasn't been too welcomed.
I don't deny that she is getting a lot of s**t now but she WAS welcomed. At the start most of the press was extremely positive. The public are fond of Harry and were keen to see him happy. I also think you are spot on about many people's view of the US sadly. This is not a comment about the US president but about people's opinion of him. He is the butt of jokes by most comedians and derided on talk shows - the kind that are mostly going to be watched by younger people. There is a lot of 'Why US, why?' However, Meghan is anti-Trump so you'd think that would be a point in her favour. What seems to drive the hate is the supposed leaking (I have no idea if truly leaked or made up or a mix of the two) of various things she has done 'wrong' ie making Kate cry, staff being sacked. Also Harry doesn't look happy and people blame her as she's the main thing that has changed. That it's because she's unhappy doesn't cross a lot of people's minds.
Load More Replies...First I was like, OMG, how can they treat them so differently, what has that poor woman done to deserve it ?But then I remembered that I don't care, and everything was fine again :D
you have to consider the papers doing the reporting - the mail, express, sun, guardian. Generally the only use for these papers is at the bottom of a birdcage
Id agree with the majority of that list, but the Guardian has a good reputation. I have never seen it compared to the Mail, Express or Sun. If anything, its normally The Telegraph that is the "bourgeoisie" paper included on that list.
Load More Replies...I remember seeing an article on kate about the 15 times she lost her temper or something like that.
You have a good point - Kate was maligned a lot for a long time. I remember footage of her wrapping a parcel and then pulling a face when she realised she had to finish it and the comments!! It takes time for new members to the royal family to settle in. Not helped by every mistake being magnified. I don't know why they have to be shoved down our throats constantly to be honest, most of us don't care that much. Unfortunately, the difference with Harry and Meghan is that they started telling people how they should live their lives. That was fine - until they didn't practice what they preached. The press have definitely been unkind but H&M have made some stupid mistakes. William and Kate have too but they learned to manage better and worked with the press instead of against them.
Load More Replies...Who gives a s**t? Lets focus on actual world issues and not pointless royal and famous BS
They are human beings, no one deserves to be treated like that.
Load More Replies...I know zero about the royal family. This does indeed look slanted but before I cast judgement I'd like to see if anyone could find the vice versa of this article's examples. If there are none to be found, then it is what it is I guess. I wonder though, did Harry's romance start just after clickbait became all the rage? Maybe Kate came around before those times so the precedent of how she was to be treated was already set.
There has been bad press about every woman that has ever married into the royal family and born into it - Princess Anne had bad press & so did Princess Margaret. Eugenie & Beatrice have the p**s taken out of them for their figures, clothes, frequent holidays. It hasn't just been Meghan. The palace should do more to contain the leaks as gossip about her 'attitude' has played a significant role in why Meghan fell out of favour & she was popular to start with. The disagreements with her father didn't help either as people think she was too harsh with an old sick man. The worst said about the men was reserved for the Duke of Edinburgh who has been famous for his racism and Andrew obviously has had bad press but he was disliked for being lazy already. Honestly, the media just like to take turns on picking on them, winding up the public & enjoying the resultant mayhem. It isn't racism if they do it to them all. This article has taken one angle & ignored the positive stuff written.
Load More Replies...Quite confused why this even merits an article. What did we expect from the tabloids? Articles of value and quality?
Well, tabloids are called tabloids for a reason. Now you know, they are vile, racists, elitists, and don't make the world a better place.
Anyone who knows most of these particular media outlets will testify to the fact that they represent the right wing of the British press. The Mail & The Express are written for the elderly, right wingnuts who love to hate anyone who’s not like them, white and middle class. This does highlight how evil they are but don’t think for a minute they represent the wider British public. Can’t fault them for stepping away from the spotlight, Harry saw the damage that the press did to his Mum, he will be more than happy for his family to get away from that same pressure. I don’t agree with the way they’ve done it but I suspect they knew that doing it by following protocol would allow the Queen the exert a huge amount of pressure on them. Good luck to them, wherever life takes them.
I am a real 100% Brit. Yorkshireman to boot and we say it like it is irrespective of consequences. That said we only open our cake holes if we are a quadrillion percent correct. The talent less Ms None Sparkle ensnared the dopey twat Harry who even failed his 11 plus at school so he was a walkover. She is a 333rd rate actress and carrot top was beguiled by her. Royalty are the leeches that they present but they are still making the corpses dance. This is all a load of bollocks and there are far better things in the news deserving a quadrillion percent more of anyone's time.
Yes of course... that's why she managed to get a role on a very popular t.v. series... because she had no talent... sure, dude. /sarc
Load More Replies...The instagram account where Harry & Meghan tell people how to save the planet and then jet across the world on private planes is partly to blame I think. It was felt to be the height of hypocrisy. There has been a lot of leaked 'information' about events where she doesn't come across well but none of us know if that is true or not. It's the extremes I don't get - the loving or loathing of someone we don't really know and never will.
Load More Replies...Is it racist? Not all of it. She's American. You've no idea how some in the UK despise the average American. Also, Kate went through *years* of he** as the press excoriated her, even taking pics of her when William was dating someone else, IIRC, to Kate's detriment, blah blah blah... In other words... Antoehr day at the Daily Muck. (American citizen, UK in-laws.)
NOTE: Duchess of Sussex is of African descent. And many people claim it's all racist that she's criticized in the press. ANd, btw, the fact she's American IS a negative to many in the UK. I DID NOT say American is a race; and, btw, "racism" is the term applied when you're against someone of a different skin color. Reading is so effing difficult for some.
Load More Replies...Honestly, I don't think I'd care what anyone wrote about me if I suddenly became part of the royal family. Could life be easier? Just smile and have some chitchat at lame events and not having to worry about paying the rent or your kids education, ever. Really, why bother about some silly tabloids if you can have such a privileged life?
Hence why they left...I used to wonder what it would be like to be famous, but articles like these makes me happy I'm not...it's sad they get criticized for every little normal thing.
The media intrusion is why both William and Harry had other women turn down their proposals. Most people don't want this level of scrutiny.
Load More Replies...Seems like they made a good decision to leave. I wish them the best of luck!
According to that press, it seems Meghan can't do anything right. Good for her for getting out of there with her family (and I'm glad that the Queen is supporting her and her husband's decision). I wish them the best of luck and more peace
The Queen loves her grandson but also has no choice. The press unfortunately are a vindictive lot but they also are very mercurial - they loved Meghan once (the articles here are chosen very specifically to leave out the positive stuff that existed) and they hated Kate at one point too. Should have heard the disgust for Camilla and yet now she's been forgiven and accepted. The press seem to change mood faster than the British weather.
Load More Replies...WHY, WHY, WHY, should anyone care about...talk about...write about...gossip about - the ROYALS???????
Because even you, who is not interested in them, will comment on articles about them. Clicks and comments create ad money.
Load More Replies...I believe that there is a difference in how they arrange things. For example did they ask the queen for permission to do something or did they simply inform her what they were doing? It was their first Christmas as a family, why the didn't send it with the Queen? How is it the same as spending 2 Christmases with your parents in a decade? Your are baptising you kid so you simply tell the queen the date with out her input, or do you ask if she can come and she said "I'm 92 and there is a hard week ahead can i skip this?" I don't get how are those things the same
But journalists don't know how exactly Kate and Meghan arrange those things with the Queen. Nobody informs them if either prince or duchess asked for permission of just informed. So these papers just assume negative things about Meghan for no good reason. Just look at "hand on the bump" thing - natural gesture that millions of pregnant women do, and suddenly it is a bad of Meghan.
Load More Replies...GREAT DECISION MEGHAN AND HARRY! TO LEAVE THESE SICK TOXIC BASTARDS, I SEE WHY YOU LEFT, NOT TO MENTION THEM COMPARING YOUR BABY ARCHIE TO A CHIMP? KATE WASN'T NEARLY TREATED AS BAD AS MEGHAN. WOW IT'S NOT JUST SAD BUT VERY RACIST!
I now see why Meghan and Harry want to leave. I had No idea how much they rip the poor woman apart. I now understand their decision to relocate, its utterly shocking/devastating. Diana was treated similarly and look how that turned out. The press over there is full of Racist, elitist a******s. I hope Meghan and Harry find some peace and are able to recover from this abuse. Just because someone is famous does not make them immune to being hurt. They are real people with real feelings. I’m from Canada so I had not seen many of these articles before. The good thing for M&H is That in Canada, we just don’t really care about them... that sounds mean, but it’s not intended to. We could care less about what they are wearing or doing, or what rules /traditions they are violating. AKA we are not royalty obsessed. I’m sure they are lovely people but what they do day so day has no bearing on my life. Live and let live!
Royalty, in any country, is pure s**t. The British tabloids are pure s**t. What a scam the royal family has going. They scammed the Brits into paying them to be "royal"? You got what you deserve and now you have sour grapes because these two, Harry & Meghan, said, "F**k you, we're out." F**k the entirety of the royal family.
It is very understandable why Harry and Meghan want solitude. They have been treated horribly. I wish them nothing but happiness!
All I got from this is how much of racists asshats the British media is. Can't wait for Elizabeth to die so Australia can finally leave the Commonwealth! 🙄
ENGLISH TRADITION? 102 years ago the royal family weren't even called 'The Windsors.' Up until 1917 they were the Saxe-Coburg and Gothas but after being at war with Germany for 3 years and losing about 1,000,000 men, they decided it would be more popular to take the name of their English home. There have only been 4 Windsor monarchs including the present Queen's uncle who openly supported the Nazis before WW2.
The British press always needs a "good" princess + a "bad" princess: The Queen + Princess Margaret; Diana + Sarah (Fergie) and now Kate + Meghan.
These comparisons help explain what has contributed towards the decision taken by the Sussexes to withdraw from 'active duty' and seek a less public life away from the tabloid media. Even by ignoring the gutter press, it's still a toxic element that still pervades their lives. Seeing these comparisons has altered my view of their decision. Unfortunately, they're still likely to be in the public eye wherever they are.
This is completely disgusting. No wonder why Harry and Meghan left England and want to do their own thing. As a person living in the Commonwealth, I'm not even mad if they still get royalty payments. I pray nothing happens to them like Diana and they're safe and happy.
You get what you ask for. She has created a lot of her problems herself.
I would rather be friends with a politician than a newspaper “reporter”. Let it be understood that whatever these vile cretins write about anyone is unlikely to be representative of public feeling. They are their own species only serving themselves and their multi billion pound media owning bosses, they have nothing to do with us. In truth very few people outside of royal circles give a s*** about Megan OR Kate. Prince Andrew’s impropriety with underage girls etc has strangely fallen from the front page tho...funny that...
It hasn't. Coverage this week of how his security will no longer be paid for since he was sacked. Also he was been mentioned many times in pieces sympathising with the Queen on her bad year, a couple of weeks ago. Things do get to a point where nothing new comes up though. Harry and Meghan make the mistake of keeping themselves in the public eye even if it is just by all the Instagram c**p. Meghan on that seaplane and women's centre in the news - that was her choice too. You are right about most people not giving a s**t about them though. Most people have their own problems.
Load More Replies...According to these headlines, I think the lowest and most despicable lifeforms of Earth can be found among the "journalist" working for these "newspapers"...
If people stopped buying the magazines selling this tripe perhaps it would die off!
Sadly the Daily Mail is very successful online so unless we are very lucky we are rather stuck with them.
Load More Replies...You can't cite tabloids as legit press. Their point is to spark controversy. Which clearly they do well.
M and H are grifters who need the royal family to have something that keeps them in the limelight. At this point they have produced nothing of value in spite of getting paid huge dollars for non existent podcasts and products for Netflix. Their foundation is nothing except trite cliches from the internet. This interview is a tactic to move attention away from the it failed business efforts.
It’s definitely mean-spirited. And typical of the British media’s penchant for tearing down new Royals with sensationalist, petty and sometimes cruel headlines. But she was lauded by the press in the beginning. And her and Harry haven’t always helped themselves with some questionable decisions. The British tabloid press cam definitely be vile (and were to Kate initially too). But I am not convinced they were being racist? I have never seen any evidence to support this unless I really am missing something
I am sick of hearing how awful Britain was to Megan, the 'examples' you provide you only state half the situation. Britain has bent over backward to welcome her and make her comfortable, yet she did nothing but moan and ignore Royal customs, I am glad she has gone.
The press can be vicious against Meghan but she is not the first nor will she be the last Royal they verbally attack. Before they turned on Meghan, they portrayed Kate as a lazy good digger social climber and before her, they tore Camilla Parker Bowles to shreds (then there is how they treated Princess Diana until she died). If Meghan's friends and hanger ons would stop running to the press at every opportunity to portray her as a victim (which does her no favors especially since she gets accused of being behind it) and her and Harry would follow the Queen Mother's slogan never complain, never explain, the press would most likely move on to a new target. If Kate had friends and hanger ons who wouldn't stfu up about her and constantly villainize the British press and William whined about how the evil press are violating his and his wife's privacy while his wife does pap walks with a big grin on her face, Kate no doubt would be reciving the same treatment.
So when the press and trolls treated Diana, Camilla and Kate like s**t, this being the examples that Meghan's friends were using when they told her that the press would chew her up and spit her out, it was because they were racist to all 3 ?? I find it a little odd to say that Harry is protecting Meghan from the racist press because she's going through the same thing his mother went through...as a black woman ?? Is it possible the press are misogynistic snobs who go after 1 woman until fresh meat shows up and they turn tail towards her.
This is unbelievable. I thought the press would be on her favour... this is just shameful.
I think it's time to do away with the worst of the press. All public figures can expect a bit of hassle but it's ridiculous to allow said press to harass and denigrate anyone to that extent. The problem, however, is that those particular types of "newspapers" wouldn't be rabidly spouting such despicable content IF PEOPLE WOULD STOP F*****G BUYING THOSE PAPERS. No sales? No site hits? Less b******t.
The British tabloids will temporarily leave this lovely couple alone when Britain will have left the European Union, but they will continue to harass them every time the British plutocracy will be running into possible trouble due to the severe changes the 'normal' Brits will have to accept and adjust to. They are simply perfect to be used as bait in order to tamper with what people - and the news - are talking about.
This is why I'd never want to be super famous, not for all the riches or privileges. Every little sign of weakness (everyone has weaknesses, just some are better at hiding it or it's not the obvious kind) is picked apart and made the basis of drastic assumptions about your character. Even things that are not weaknesses can be perceived that way if they want to make that leap for a "story". No privacy, so many tight rules for public appearance and personal choices that like this list shows, can be biased against or for you at a whim. Give the poor people a break. Maybe Meghan is a controlling diva who selfishly eschews centuries of tradition or maybe she's just a woman who's trying hard to adjust to the royal life and culture she wasn't raised in and the press is horrible and damaging. The point is, as much as we like to speculate and put these people on pedestals or stomp all over them for being human, we don't really know them deeply enough to make a final judgement.
Gee, what with wars, volcanoes, wildfires and impeachment I haven't given this enough thought. Sorry, I'll try to get my priorities in order.
Does it feel like there are clear "bad guys" in the family? According to crazydaysandnights.net, the royal family has many of these publications on-call to spin a narrative any way they want.
The Royal family absolutely have a PR department - and have had one for decades. They've been very open about it. However, they can't control what these publications choose to do in response to anything that their PR department releases. If they did, Diana would've been left alone, the recent Prince Andrew scandal would've remained hidden, and King George VI (Queen Mother's husband who took over once his brother abdicated), would never have had to make public speeches (because he had a significant stutter). So, yes, there is a PR department (they've never denied it)... but they don't control these publications.

Yes they did love Meghan at one stage. The s**t she gets now is wrong but when she married Harry she was very popular.

Nevermind he put 100 Billion for black communities, or created task force to investigate murders of our Native Americans, or stands up for LGBTQ in front of the UN for allowing countries to make them illegal and punishable by death in some countries, or has had more child trafficking rings busted than any other president, or has more jobs for more people under every single demographic in our history, or made it a felony to abuse animals, etc, etc, etc.. Our media is more worried about taking sides with drunken Pelosi and her regime of imaginary impeachable offenses..
Excellent presentation for the who haven't been paying attention - and this is just the tip of the iceberg🤷🏼♀️
I can see why Harry wants far away from the toxic royals. No offense, but they need to get the sticks out of their "bums". I think the notion of royalty is a bit outdated but thats just my opinion. Theres a long history of unhappy relationships because of people not marrying who they want. If they live abroad, good for them then the Queen cant tell Meghan what nail polish to wear and all that other pointless garbage.
The media and the trolls never miss an opportunity to dish dirt on Meghan. Is it because she was an actress? So was Grace Kelly. Is it because she is a woman of colour? Probably. Now that the Sussex's are getting away from the limelight, the press is on the prowl looking for another pair of victims. Pity they don't find the trolls on their forums interesting enough to hound. Then they would know what would be like to never have a moment's peace.
I read the Daily Mail only for the comments. Daily Mail readers come across as racist.
And virulently sexist. But the Daily Mail is published in Australia and America (and is available worldwide), it is the world’s biggest online news site. A lot of those comments come from international readers. And btw they publish quite a few bored panda articles so their content writers obviously spend time here.
Load More Replies...English Tabloids are the worst king of paper, you can't call that Press more like Fox News on steroids!!! It shouldn't even be use for chips…
But Kate's the Duchess and British to boot. Where as Meghan is an actress and a stinky ol' American. It's obvious that the British tabloids do not approve of Meghan. They need to get over it. I can't imagine why her and Harry want to step away from representing the royal family (*sarcasm). Perhaps if the Queen had shown her a modicum of approval or if she'd gotten some sort of reign on the tabloids to leave Meghan alone, they wouldn't be leaving. I love the Queen, but it's proof you can't take the snobbery out of royalty. It's too bad. Meghan and Harry are both wonderful people that deserve more than they are getting.
As a Brit I can assure you that the papers loved Meghan to start with. Then H&M got married and, for some reason, it went downhill fast. It was well known that the Queen did not approve of Kate, her family or get on with her. When Kate's mother Carol asked for 'the loo' in front of the Queen Kate got canned shortly after (the shock of hearing such language!) and William started looking for a new girlfriend. He asked two others to marry him but was turned down. Kate then got the nickname Katy-Waity. The Queen grudgingly approves of her now but they don't naturally get on. Yet there were many photos of the Queen laughing with Meghan. Don't believe all the bad press now means that it was always negative.
Load More Replies...What a bunch a nasty hypocrites the British press is. When will they ever learn to just leave these people alone to get on with their lives?
Bill, being a woman has nothing to do with it. And it's not jealousy. They just dont like an American woman of color marrying into the royal family.
Being a woman has everything to do with it. Royal boyfriends and husbands face none of this. She has been cast as an arch manipulator or her poor innocent little husband.
Load More Replies...Harry's decision to leave the Royal life has been on the cards since he was a teenager. He has publicly, repeatedly, & on the record, stated that he did NOT want to be king. He & his brother have also publicly, & on the record, stated that they made an agreement, a long time before either of them met their current wives, that they would willingly leave the Royal family / money / duties, in order to have as 'normal' a life as they could possibly have - it's one of the primary reasons why they have *both* broken / changed so many traditions, including marrying 'commoners'. Harry has said repeatedly, formally, that he would do whatever it took, to protect his family, as he was unable to protect his mother when he was young. This blatant double-standard shown towards Meghan, & the outright bigoted comments thrown at her by the media (solely for the purpose of profit), is more than enough of a reason for him to do exactly what he has ALWAYS been willing to do. I wish them only good.
Media's obsession. We don't want it forced upon us all the time. There is quite a large anti-monarchy movement.

Load More Replies...Isn't it rather racist to assume that the dislike is because of race? None of the comments relate to her heritage at all so how do you know? Making assumptions. People can be disliked for different reasons you know. All the Royals - bar probably the Queen but I'm not old enough to know for sure - have had some nasty s**t written about them. The Duke of Edinburgh in particular with all the GENUINE racist c**p he's come out with. Prince Charles for womanising, Andrew for obvious reasons, Edward was called out for being 'a wimp'. Princess Anne is popular now but she was in the press for hating the press. The Royals get picked up and put down but the press all the time - it's nasty but it is not racism. Trying to make it seem that way is wrong.

That it's because she's unhappy doesn't cross a lot of people's minds.

you have to consider the papers doing the reporting - the mail, express, sun, guardian.

Hence why they left...I used to wonder what it would be like to be famous, but articles like these makes me happy I'm not...it's sad they get criticized for every little normal thing.
The media intrusion is why both William and Harry had other women turn down their proposals. Most people don't want this level of scrutiny.

Load More Replies...are you surprise? today's media didn't just report the news, they makes a statement about what they think it's right or wrong! you can't fully trust the media these days. The british never love Meghan so they makes their new around their hate for her.

Load More Replies...Now THAT is not true at all. Andrew has not been popular for years as he's considered rude and lazy. This shameful stuff with Epstein has caused plenty of negative and critical press. Quite rightly. People were pleased and relieved when he was forced to retire.
Load More Replies...UK is not that racist - you get some, sure, because people are stupid. But we don't even call people 'African British' - they're just British and skin colour is irrelevant to that fact.
Load More Replies...Seriously? No. It's practically ancient history and most people really don't care what some long-dead royal chose to do.
Load More Replies...'Half cast yank'. So you're racist then. Nothing like that has even been written by the press so you are even worse than them. Well done. 🙄
Load More Replies...Wrong. So wrong. Give an example of any genuine racism. All you see is dislike but you have no idea why. How about 'dear Brits, live like THIS yet we won't' love SussexRoyal. Such c**p.
