This is how I spent my Christmas holidays: while most of my friends were snowed in at home in Toronto or at a Caribbean beachside resort, I chose the less travelled route – a week on a couple of small islands in the east Atlantic!

The majority of these images were taken on the island of Tenerife, with a couple from Gran Canaria. I was most impressed by the diversity of these tiny islands belonging to Spain just off the coast of Morocco. There are sweeping vistas of mountains jutting into the oceans, rocky dunes and deserts, lush dark forests, wondrous rock formations and quaint towns draped over cliffs. It’s like a Best-Of compilation of sights that you’d never think of finding in one place.

The Canary Islands are truly unique and magical – as I hope you’ll see in the photos.
