Meet Kyle Jennermann (A.K.A. Kulas), a Canadian who fell inlove with the Philippines and wants it to be his home.
He started a website, becomingfilipino.com, to ask Filipinos to help him come up with a list on how he can become one. It’s been a year since he started it, so here are the things he has done so far.

Getting a Filipino name
Kyle was unexpectedly given the name Kulas. He felt honored receiving it and become known in the Philippines with this name.

To become a Filipino, he needs to eat Filipino food

Eating Durian fruit and ice cream.
Drinking the traditional “Iced Water”.
Street foods hopping.
He can, not only eat Filipino meals, but also cook them with heart.
And, oh! He loves drinking Filipino booze.
Especially the great “TUBA”.
He also practices Filipino traditions, lives its culture and takes part in the Filipino’s day-to-day activities

He takes time to learn the Philippine martial art: Arnis.
He participates in Filipino customs.
He is riding the Skylab, a Philippine transportation used in rural areas.
Roaming around town selling goods.

Fishing with the local fishermen.
Riding the Jeepney.
Taking a bath with a stone, “Lugod”.
Sitting the Filipino way.

Finally, he brings smiles to the heart of everyone he encounters
This guy truly has become one of us or even has surpassed some of us in living our own culture. He is a reminder how beautiful our culture is and how “fun” it is to be in Philippines, and how great it is to be a Filipino. Truly, you have inspired us that we, ourselves, must become a true Filipino. Thank you Kulas! Mabuhay ka!
