Teen Recreates Van Gogh Painting On Her Leg Instead Of Self-Harming

18-year-old Amelia Hall has suffered from depression for several years. But when she had a particularly bad day recently, she didn’t resort to self-harm but instead did something both brilliant and inspiring.

“Today has been the worst day in a long time, but I recreated a beautiful painting on my skin instead of self harming,” wrote Amelia on Twitter recently. The painting she chose was “Café Terrace at Night” by Vincent van Gogh, one of her favorite artists. The masterpiece took the archaeology student at the University of Manchester around three hours to complete, but it wasn’t easy to finish. “I remember sitting there halfway through wanting to wash it all off and just go back to bed,” she said. “But I’m so glad I kept working on it because I have something wonderful to show from a particularly bad day, instead of just self-harm marks. No matter how bad everything may be, it’s not worth physically hurting yourself.”

All I can say is → congratulations! For everything. For your amazing talent and for your strenght. Keep up the good job, and I'm sure you'll get even better (both at painting and strenght). Stay beautiful. ♥

Also, thank you for sharing such a private moment. It helps others to know there other solutions than self harm. Any creative outlet helps.

Literally a beautiful demonstration of perseverance. Even though I never resorted to self-harm, I know how bad depression sucks. Don't let it win!
