Vivian Maier, an excellent New York street photographer who took thousand of photos in the 1950s and 60s, was left woefully unacknowledged during her time. It was only in 2011, two years after her death, that her photos were recognized for their raw beauty in a collection published by historian and collector John Maloof.

Amateur photographer Mark Hersch is the perfect example of how improving photo technology is making it easier and easier for more and more people to create beautiful images. This stunning landscape (or skyscape?) was snapped as Hersch’s flight was approaching Chicago O’ Hare International Airport last week. He had his iPhone out to take a picture when the plane took a sharp turn and revealed this incredible sight – the Chicago skyline casting its shadow on the surface of Lake Michigan.

Defrosting a Frozen Building

This cold storage facility in Chicago may not draw your attention from the outside, but had you entered the building a few months ago, you’d be surprised to see what was inside. After nine decades of cold storage and lack of proper maintenance, the whole interior was full of cave-like stalagmites and stalactites. Once the Fulton Market Cold Storage Company, which was renting the premises, decided to move out, it was sold to a bike component manufacturer SRAM. However, in order to use their new space, SRAM had to defrost the building first.
