Sick, traumatised and extremely scared are three key words which would describe sweet Rio. Found on the streets of Bali, Rio had been beaten badly by his owners and would not accept any human touch. He was a bag of skins and bones, had severe demodex, fungus and anemia due to a blood parasite.

Rio was brought to the Tiga Foundation by a rescuer and this is when his rehabilitation started. Having to be in a separate area away from the other dogs, Rio stayed huddled up in his kennel. Trusting no one, the timid Bali dog barely came out of it, except to go to the toilet. However, there was something about Rio that we could see in eyes. He wanted to be friendly, cuddled and loved but he didn’t know how. Time and patience was what Rio needed and we gave him just that.

A few months later, Rio is doing much better. He now comes of his kennel and takes food from our hands. He has such a sweet look in his eyes and he no longer growls at people or other dogs anymore. He is learning to trust again and is growing more handsome by the day.

In order for us to help our Bali street dogs, we rely heavily on donations. Rio’s (and other street dogs we have rescued) vet bills have cost a lot and we need help to cover these fees. Please check out our fundraiser and remember, every little bit helps.

Alternatively, if you would like to adopt Rio and give him a furever home, please get in contact and let us know.
