Photographer Captures View Down World’s Highest Active Volcano Out Of Plane Window
Reasons to always get a window seat #32: you might get to peer down the world’s highest active volcano! Which is exactly what happened to 1MP photographer Mauricio Roman.
At 5,897m above sea level, Cotopaxi is the second highest summit in Ecuador, but the world’s highest active volcano.
On a clear day, Cotopaxi makes a clearly visible impact on the Quito skyline. When weather and volcanic activity permit, climbers leaving the refuge at around 5000m are able to reach the summit.
Here, the extraordinary view down the crater is fortuitously yet beautifully captured by Mauricio in his image submitted to the Travel category of the 1MP Gallery. The decision to include the portion of jet engine adds a lovely sense of dimension and location.
