Raising kids is hard, there is no question about it. It's easy to get stressed and frustrated - which can lead to some toxic parenting styles. Here are some toxic parenting behaviors to avoid. Instead of taking at your kids talk with them. Barbara Greenberg, PhD, a clinical psychologist known for her national television appearances focusing on the mental health of adolescents and teens, told Reader's Digest: “Toxic parents are known for not listening to their kids, but instead, talking over them or at them,” and said they should, "make a concerted effort to remain silent and listen, listen, and listen some more. If kids feel listened to they will talk more and confide more.

Try to stay positive! Negative thoughts can be more powerful than you think and affect your interactions with your kids. Internationally recognized child psychology expert, Jeffrey Bernstein, PhD, explained to RD: “No kid is perfect, but parents often don’t realize just how much their own thoughts, rather than their children’s behavior, contribute to their own emotions.”

It's hard to keep a cool head when you have a million things to do, the dog got out, you have to drop people off at activities and still have work. Dr. Bernstein believes that it is worth it to learn how to manage these parenthood frustrations as the outcome can have a positive effect on your child's behavior. “When you learn to identify and manage your own parenting frustrations, you’ll be amazed at how your child’s challenging behaviors can quickly improve.”

Your child is not their behavior. We all have bad days, imagine if you snapped at your child and from every day onward your kid thought of you only as "angry" mom or dad. The same goes for your kids. Dr. Bernstein explained: “The lack of time for parents to catch their breath and reflect, can lead them sometimes to see their children in global ways. As a result, toxic labels such as: lazy, problematic, selfish, and inconsiderate can result in parents influencing their children to be locked into a negative identity." Focus on solutions, not labels.

This Mom Allowing Her Child To Listen To His iPad Full Volume Without Headphones For The Entire Flight

_pinkunicornn Report

Every kid is unique, even within the same family, and each one has something to bring to the table. Maybe you find it easier to get along with one sibling over the other or have more in common, but comparing kids against each other is toxic - especially if you think it will result in a change of behavior. Dr. Greenberg says, “Instead, you should celebrate each child’s individuality; comparisons damage self-esteem and do not serve as motivation.”

I'm baffled by the number of people saying there should be a barrier of some kind.. no! There shouldn't have to be a barrier at all. why can't you all just have some respect and show a little self control? We live in a world full of people who aren't to blame for things they have damaged because "there was no barrier" and that's super messed up.

As an Archaeologist myself, this is threatening to the conservation. It's really easy to displace those small tesserae. It has stayed that way by people not walking on it since it was uncovered or protected. My mum would have slapped me silly.

despite the comments suggesting the contrary, there are ropes all the way around this mosaic. (you can see it on the photographer's side stretching from the bottom left of the image to just over a third of the way up on the right hand part of the image. You can also see the shadow of the rope on the left hand side of the image and the posts holding the rope to the right of the mosaic.) And yes, it lasted 2000 years, protected under earth before it was excavated.

Well brought-up parents have well brought-up children. It's that simple. Is it so hard to be normal and respect the properties that don't belong to them??? If your kids make a mess, you make them clean it up and help them do so! Is it so hard to understand???

yes, i agree that stepping on this to get the ball is wrong and most likely very bad for the mosaic. but maybe he did just accidentally throw over there. and had they just left it there, this picture would most likely still be here because they left it here. i don't think letting him go on it without permission from a staff member or someone was a good idea. i feel like they should have told someone first that the ball had been thrown onto the mosaic and then proceed from there. and like someone said earlier, someone is going to have to go get the ball anyways. whether it be a staff member or the kid. once again, i don't think letting the kid step on the mosaic was a good idea at all. especially without permission, but you do also have to think about that its outside and most likely gets rained on. please no hate! just trying to share my thoughts!

I have an honest question for the archaeologists and anyone else who would know: How do you prevent damage to the floor by local wildlife or, say, the local feral cat population deciding this is a great place to give birth or have a massive fight? (Nothing to do with the way-too-old-for-this kid in the picture.)

It's a stone mosaic, I don't think briefly walking on it is going to destroy it if thousands of years of weather hasn't yet. Not that he should be walking on it, but y'know. And at least they're picking the ball up and not just leaving it there.
