When I posted to reddit before I went to bed I didn’t think I would wake up to messages from friends saying they were happy to see me at the top of the front page of the internet. A couple of friends posted screenshots of it. Some were even excited to know someone that have made it to the front page.

But let’s talk about the photo shall we. That morning we were supposed to leave back home to NYC, but we all got emails saying that flight had been canceled. We ended getting to stay in Iceland for 2 more days on the airline’s dime. So that right there was a blessing in disguise.

We made plans to explore Vik more. Go to Reynisfjara in the morning, then Dyrholaey, and then the crashed plane. On the way to Dyrohlaey we stopped at the foot of the narrow strait road to take photos.

To the left of me I saw some unique lava formations. I like seeing new things so I started snapping photos left and right. I get hurried and I hear the car beep. I wrapped up my shots and climbed back over a structure and I all I saw was the car making it’s way down the narrow straight.

Well sh*t, what do I do now?
Will they come back? They have to come back
Oh well I’ll just explore the area.

I decided to make my way towards the coastline, but I didn’t want to walk through a marsh. I went around and climbed over on someone’s property that had a home that looked like Bag Ends. A home built into a knoll. I took pictures and it started to precipitate some ice. I found cover on the property. Waited 5 mins and went back out to take more pictures because the quality of light was just amazing. I decided to head back to the main road to see if I can catch a ride back to the hotel. I stare back at the coast and see a storm system coming. I remember seeing a barn and cave above it. It wasn’t much of a hike. There were steps made by other people’s foot prints. They say if you don’t like the weather in Iceland, wait 5 minutes.

OK, I’ll wait 5 minutes with these gulls and be envious of my friends taking bangers on top of Dyrholaey. I recalled a photo from my friends Andrew took when he was in Norway I think. It was a cave shot at sunrise. I thought I try to get the same type of shot so I started taking photos at different compositions. Some were too close, I didn’t like the landcape ones, didn’t like the pose.

Then the storm cleared and the sun shined through. The atmosphere just changed and I didn’t even have to think about it anymore. I’m gonna set this frame and timer on and do what I feel at the moment. Within the 10 sec timer I just stood there admiring everything. All my worries were gone. I felt my satori.
