My older brother has done woodworking as far back as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories are of learning how to whittle sticks with our pocket knives, or watching, entranced, as he turned a plain lump of wood into something exquisite on the lathe.

Lately, he’s turned to creating nature-inspired jewelry — pendants, earrings, and barrettes — from the wood scraps that come through his shop.

Though we’re long past whittling on sticks now, I’m still entranced by what he does.
