My 4th grade son recently got his first love note from a classmate of his. Instead of the usual 4th grade “I like you. Do you like me? Circle yes or no,” what I found was the best example of fearless honesty and a girl who is okay with setting her own boundaries. This might be the most progressive 4th grade girl in the school, and maybe she doesn’t even know it yet. I hope she keeps that fierceness and I hope my son (when he is of appropriate dating age) will get to know and respect many more women who tell it like it is and who aren’t afraid to hurt some feelings in the interest of protecting her own values!!
