Hello everyone! My name is Nastia Calaca, I am a ceramist and an artist, I make wooden painted figures, giving them an appearance of friends` portraits, movie stars, singers, writers and pop-culture characters.
You will find a Grumpy cat, Chewe and Han Solo, Spok, Jhon Snow and Sherlock… well you will find nearly anyone you can imagine!
I made the first doll in 2012. It all began as a valentine’s gift to a young man. Later I learned that this doll form is inherent in Japanese traditional dolls kokeshi. Everyone liked this doll and I decided to continue to experiment and to revive the favorite characters and ordinary people surrounded me.
Materials I use are alder and walnut, wooden figurines are also hand made. Portraits are painted with acrylic paints.
I love to devote a good deal of time to different parts, because, as they say, the devil is in the details. Therefore I make a doll in three days.
