Lets be honest... I work in customer service in one of the largest retailers in the world, and its RARE and i mean RARE the managers side with us employees, they almost always let the customer get their damned way, which is why they pull the same s**t over and over, because they can. On the rare occasions the managers DO side with employees... its almost frame worthy!

My dad tells the story of a man who came in to buy a vacuum cleaner. He asked a manager if he could open the box and look at it to see if it was what he needed. When he was done and they closed the box up, the man asked to buy another one because "that one was opened".

If I see a stressed out CSR or wait person, I make sure I am sincere when I say "so, how's it goin?" I really want to give them a break for a minute. They usually take a big breath and tell me about it. I don't ever want to be someone's last straw.

Correct me if this is different in the US, but: if you are busy with work at clock-out time, you clock out once you are done and have the time registered as over-time. Depending on contract, you will get paid for that, or be able to get off-time at another day.

And then you will see another list article, about hugely embarrassing little moments, with one of its entries being: "I was asked whether I wanted my receipt with me or in the bag. The thing that sucks about going "above and beyond" in CS is that you rarely get more than a 'thanks' for your effort. No raise, no promotion opps. There's no real incentive to do better.

You have to like that or they will fire you. Employees are forced into acting like that by the company, their supervisors and even co-workers. If you don't act like that, you will be written up, ridiculed, ostracized, and eventually fired.

Every damn time when I worked at a Greek café! The owners used to get me to help out when it was busy, on my break! We used to earn below minimum wage and work stupidly long hours (a few times even 17.5 hours in the one day) and after 5 hours, your feet hurt and you need that break, yet the owners sit at the back whilst they watch on whilst NOT BLOODY HELPING! Glad I left that place, and equally glad that it's currently on the market. They disrespect their employees and hardly ever sold fresh cakes and pastries. Disgusting!

I made out on a couch at Fred Meyers, when I got notice my RX was in. Showed up with a friend, turned out they filled the wrong one and there was a hours wait. It was 9am, store was empty, so we started making out on a display couch. Most of the pharmacy people knew my name on sight... 10 mins into making out (mind you, no one said 2 words to us that whole time) my RX was magically ready to go. They even came and got me, instead of blaring my name over the speakers... Lol
