Lets be honest... I work in customer service in one of the largest retailers in the world, and its RARE and i mean RARE the managers side with us employees, they almost always let the customer get their damned way, which is why they pull the same s**t over and over, because they can. On the rare occasions the managers DO side with employees... its almost frame worthy!
believe it or not, "the back" is not an infinite space of all the products we neglect to put in the front.
I had a job where I was salaried if the boss needed me to stay late, and hourly if I needed to leave early.
I got shouted at once, for a label sticking out in a display window. I was not even responsible for a display window. Apparently, we have to be Gods and see everything.

Every single day on my way to work, I was hoping for a major catastrophe in the metro. I quit... that was the solution. Happy now!
My dad tells the story of a man who came in to buy a vacuum cleaner. He asked a manager if he could open the box and look at it to see if it was what he needed. When he was done and they closed the box up, the man asked to buy another one because "that one was opened".
Pretty much how mine went... 1 measly % raise... I'm a freelancer now, working full time in pjs, no stupid fake personality boss and making more money...
I don't understand why co-workers have to make small talk about your food.
I couldn't get a job as a receptionist for my local paper because my degree is in business, despite the fact that I minored in English, had eight years' experience freelancing, and had already written and published one book. No journalism degree, no job. As a RECEPTIONIST.
If I see a stressed out CSR or wait person, I make sure I am sincere when I say "so, how's it goin?" I really want to give them a break for a minute. They usually take a big breath and tell me about it. I don't ever want to be someone's last straw.
I have seen this more times than I care to admit. Also people returning 7 year old vacuums, couches, outdoor furniture, and i guarantee you once winter is over, snow blowers will be returned in droves
Yay, I get to work from home on Friday. Agenda: roll out of bed at 08:50, stay in my pjs, try to connect my VPN at 9am, check emails and reply to some first thing, p**s about on the Internet or my phone or watch tv if nothing much is happening or I have no meetings, switch off and commute to the sofa.
or when it doesn't scan at all, and there's always that one person who says "it must be free" and after hearing it literally a million times, you cannot even force a smile anymore.
I've never worked retail (really feel for the people who have) but that's gotta feel like victory.
And then you will see another list article, about hugely embarrassing little moments, with one of its entries being: "I was asked whether I wanted my receipt with me or in the bag. I said yes" accompained by a drammatical meme showing somebody ashamed swallowed by the ground. And nobody will notice the two entries are actually about the same moment but from different perspectives... O_o
actually, this did happen. it charged like 3 or 4 times, because "it wasn't working"
or their card doesn't work, so they say "I'm just going to run to the atm"
If you listen closely you can hear the weeping of the employees who try to have faith in humanity
A teacher at my school does that. I mean, he might be telling the truth, but i doubt it
Friday is just another day, Christmas is just another day, New Years is just another day.....you get the idea
I have literally interrupted people taking their anger out on employees, with "The f**k's your problem?" And from there I improvise, either asking the person what the employee has done to them personally or following up with another snide remark.
We are mostly called thieves, cheaters when the price is higher. Usually our beloved customers can't read ;)
They make you phrase stuff like that. That’s why they say "today" over and over.
I try to yell a different item back at them--you know, like it's a game!!
We just end up at the bar, knowing a lot things we shouldn't about eachother lmao
You have to like that or they will fire you. Employees are forced into acting like that by the company, their supervisors and even co-workers. If you don't act like that, you will be written up, ridiculed, ostracized, and eventually fired.
This is why she should have told the shop assistants in Pretty Woman to eff off on the first visit.
Is it that bad? I have twice loudly asked people who were paying if they were using the real bills...
In Germany this is the norm, though I'm sure this person's customer wasn't German.
After I recorded my outgoing voicemail message at work, I have never been able to listen to it again.
Or a customer walks into the now empty place, and complains that it is trashed.
I used to work retail so I understand that repetion gets old, but some of this stuff just comes off whiney as hell. You should have a little humanity and realize that the customers making those lame jokes are actually trying to be nice to you.
I know it's not the point of the post but WHAT THE F**K IS THAT HAIR!?
Also, when clients are at your workplace, and they take the parking space that YOU BLOODY PAID FOR! Yes, this has happened to me before, and I was so furious! I struggle with bills, yet they take my damn spot!
Every damn time when I worked at a Greek café! The owners used to get me to help out when it was busy, on my break! We used to earn below minimum wage and work stupidly long hours (a few times even 17.5 hours in the one day) and after 5 hours, your feet hurt and you need that break, yet the owners sit at the back whilst they watch on whilst NOT BLOODY HELPING! Glad I left that place, and equally glad that it's currently on the market. They disrespect their employees and hardly ever sold fresh cakes and pastries. Disgusting!
I am sorry, but this one I don't understand. Why else is it there? With customers, it is not really supposed to be a complete stranger on stranger relationship, names are a bit more personal. I don't work in retail, but I am curious, why does someone using your name irritate you?
I made out on a couch at Fred Meyers, when I got notice my RX was in. Showed up with a friend, turned out they filled the wrong one and there was a hours wait. It was 9am, store was empty, so we started making out on a display couch. Most of the pharmacy people knew my name on sight... 10 mins into making out (mind you, no one said 2 words to us that whole time) my RX was magically ready to go. They even came and got me, instead of blaring my name over the speakers... Lol
I had 13 items once and the cashier got really mad saying I was wasting every ones time.
And tracks mud up and down everyone one of the aisles you just mopped, picking stuff up and putting it back in the wrong places, leaves bother freezer and fridge doors open, wanders around for 30+ minutes past your closing time, then mosies up to the till and asks sweelty "What time do you close?"
Retail workers, customer service, waiters, cooks, receptionists, and all you out there working in such difficult low payment positions for the sake of our comfortable lives... THANK YOU! ♥ Seriously.
And the people who work in call centers who constantly get yelled at by customers for either doing their job, or because the customer does not understand something (e.g. terms and conditions/fine print of an advertisement) after we have explained it umpteen times to them and then they ask to speak to a manager and then tell the manager that we are wrong but then said manager states why they're wrong and I'm right; then they choose to listen.

I admit I've complained before, but never to the employee, who I know could not care less. But as someone who has been on both the CS and business owner side, I can attest that what might be fun and games for workers is not for a small business that depends on positive word-of-mouth to stay open.
Makes me glad to live in a country with generally low service standards. (Germany) While that can be annoying, at times, at least you don't often have to witness completely outrageous and rude customers. They'd just be kicked out of the store.
Gosh, I wish we could do that here in Australia! And barring rude customers from calling in would also be freaking amazing!
