A Babysitter Ad Offering Only $100 A Week Is Going Viral For How Insane The Demands Are
The amount of choosing beggars among us is astounding. Never have I thought there would be this many people who expect everyone to just slave for them for reasons they can’t explain themselves.
However, one of the most recent posts in the Choose Beggar subreddit goes above and beyond in the exploitative department. In it, there’s a screenshot of an ad for a babysitter. She’s expected to work 12-hour days and provide the kids organic food for $100 a week. And that’s not even the end of it. Remember all those ancient civilizations, throwing human suffering and death into their construction projects? Even those working conditions sound more humane than what this delusional lady is “offering”. Continue scrolling and check it out!

OK, let’s do the math real quick. This woman is looking for someone who will work 57.5 hours a week for $100, so they are willing to pay the sitter $1.74 per hour. And don’t forget they have to provide the kids with organic food, too.
Considering that the national average rate for babysitters in 2017 was $13.97 per hour (and that’s taking care of one child), the person signing the contract would accept quite the pay cut as well. Of course, they would get benefits like “must work weekends with no notice”, but still.
This mother isn’t the first to go viral for making unreasonable demands in a job posting. Take this one for example. She proposed tax evasion while offering her minuscule payment for all these services which also include teaching her children a language, taking care of the two pit bulls, and paying for snacks.
Something tells me she also isn’t going to be the last one.
Here’s what people said about the ad

Share on FacebookMy friend was babysitting through an agency and was assigned to a family with one 2 month old. It turned out they had cameras and the family didn't want her back because she was on her phone. The baby was SLEEPING at the time. I guess they expected her to sit next to the crib and watch the baby sleep?? The agency actually apologized to her - they knew she was one of their best sitters. People are crazy!
A few years ago, a woman wanted to pay me $25 A DAY, for 9 hours caring for her AUTISTIC son. I was like, lady, you should be paying $25 AN HOUR!
My God. Different job completely, but you reminded me of something. I’m a photographer and a Photoshop artist. I’ll sometimes edit overflow for other photographers, and once had a woman who thought she was going to pay me $20 to edit WHOLE WEDDINGS. Think about how many photos are in a wedding. Hundreds. People make $150 per HOUR to post process a wedding. I don’t know what’s wrong with people. Why they think it’s okay to barely pay someone for their time and effort.
Load More Replies...DVP and Eglinton is in Toronto, where a police background check costs $20. Minimum wage in Ontario is $14/hour. I don't believe this ad is for real. The woman is a crazy person if it is real. Terrible (probably illegal) pay aside, who expects a babysitter who comes to your house to provide the food?
I was thinking the same... when I saw DVP and Englinton I was so disappointed. I really hope it's just a troll... however, living in Toronto my entire life, I can easily say we have some pretty unique characters (and not always in the good way)
Load More Replies...In the 90’s as a teenager I made $5 an hour. And that was $5 an hour for an unqualified 13/14 year old. If you want to pay peanuts you can hire a monkey. Just don’t get mad when your kids learn to start throwing their poo when they get upset.
Just for reference for the childless: I paid $3K a MONTH for childcare for two kids when we lived in CA ($375 per week per child) at a standard run of the mill daycare. We live in the Midwest now and it's slightly cheaper at $1900 a month (about $230 per child per week).
Come in guys, everyone knows that this stuff on Reddit is mostly made up.
I agree, but then again I have seen very similar things so I’m not entirely convinced this is fake.
Load More Replies...I was offered $50 a week for 14 hours a day. Was offended when I said no.
My baby sitter when I was younger had a friend who baby sat once. The kids ran around messed everything and put poo all over the walls. The parents apologised for them but she never baby sat again. I don't blame her.
The person looking for a "babysitter" apparently hasn't heard the adage "You get what you pay for."
Oh yeah, and you can't use the bathroom or leave the condo (even with the kids). Housekeeping also required. Where do I sign up? This is a crazy woman
I wonder if this is someone intentionally posting a job no one would do so they can claim they tried to get a baby sitter and couldn't find one.
When I arrived from Jakarta, Indonesia to Seattle area, WA on Sept 17, 2001 to study in a community college, I stayed with a host family (Filipino wife and US husband). After a month or so, the wife (may she rest in peace) offered me a weekend job to take care of his 3 nephews in downtown Seattle (the parents are both Filipinos working as nurses in a hospital). The boys were 3, 4, and 6 years old, they said I could bring my homework and study while staying the weekend and taking care of the kids during the day (playing, bathing, and feeding, they provided the cooked food and snacks) for USD 50 - for the whole weekend! At that time I didn't understand muh about money and responsibilities that would entail, I thought just why not having a bit of extra money. At the end the kids were too much for myself, they told me, "we pay you not to do homework here and to play with us" so I asked another Indo friend to help out, the parents paid us 25 bucks each for the whole weekend. So naive...
Me and my brother were vegan growing up. We weren't organic though because it was far to expensive and we were kinda poor. My mum would make food and leave it while she worked or she would leave something super easy to make (like beans on toast). We never had a problem with it. I wouldn't dream of making someone pay for my kids food! Vegan is one thing, you can do it economically because you don't need to buy loads of expensive fake meat. But organic is ridiculous!
Considering most parents think their kids are PRICELESS . . . this person sets a very low amount for their care.
100 a week? If my parents were gone for 5 hours in one DAY, they'd pay that same amount and they were chill about it except no drugs, or any alcohol, and no friends unless they were helping you. All of them were invited to stay for dinner, could help themselves to anything in the pantry and even watch stuff on TV after we went to bed.
I don’t see this ad specifying that the babysitter has to provide the food stuffs...??? I mean, isn’t the employer supplying materials and failing to make that clear in the ad?
It's the bit that states 'MUST PROVIDE FOOD - VEGAN ORGANIC FOOD ONLY!!!'. That's where it's specifying that the babysitter had to provide food. It's the first or second capitalized line. So no, this person is expecting the babysitter to buy organic, vegan food for the kids. 5 days a week that alone would cost over $100 for two kids, 2 meals and 2 snacks for 5 days. This woman is insane.
Load More Replies...So she wants someone to watch her kids for basically free. After the cost of organic food that leaves about $50/wk pay which is beyond insane. Anyone that takes that job needs their head examined along with the mom for placing such a ridiculous ad.
absolutely insane, it takes up all of her time leaving no time for school, a job, a social life or anything. you're basically asking her to be a mother. incredibly rude, insulting and demeaning to people. it's absolutely ludicrous to not allow her to do anything, and how are you to even control that if you're taking up all of her time? making her wake up at an ungodly hour to watch two young children that aren't even hers for less than $2 an hour, and for 12 hours a day with no freedom or time to do anything.
I took a babysitting job one summer for long hours and low pay, but I was a teenager and I knew the pay was terrible because both parents needed to work to pay the bills, and if they paid me anything close to minimum wage it would defeat the purpose of the mom working. I just hung out, played with the kid, read books, and watched tv all summer. They even drove me to and from my house. Wasn't the best, but it was better than hanging around my house (no tv allowed) or getting a fast food job like my siblings.
What this person needs is a nanny who can stay all day and watch her kids. But she's not going to get a nanny for $100 a week. Me and my 7 siblings had a nanny once, she got room and board and I don't know how much she got paid. It was lots of fun, like having one more sister.
Has to be a joke account, made to foment misogyny and fake outrage at this imaginary woman, a classic Reddit signature move. No one in Toronto would even WANT the kind of babysitter who's willing to work at that rate around your kids, in your home, with food they brought in themselves, using no money.
This woman is basically a choosing beggar. She wants the service of a babysitter plus food almost for free.
If this is a real job listing this woman is crazy and all of her demands make her sound even crazier. No parent expects the babysitter to provide the food for the children.
If it fake (which I think it is) congrats on pranking the internet. It's a time honored tradition. If its real, the only people willing to do this job is likely a paedophile, who would LOVE to watch your unsupervised kids....
