This is a collection of photos that I’ve taken since last autumn. Me and my girlfriend live in my hometown, Vopnafjörður, in the North-East of Iceland. She’s a professional photographer and therefore we travel often to nearby places (mostly in the North).
Now, I’m no professional but I do have a decent camera and I like to annoy my girlfriend by sneaking a snapshot of her in beautiful places.
The North-East is one of Icelands hidden secrets and while most tourists only travel around the capital, Reykjavík, in the south, my little hometown sits peaceful as ever on the other side of the country.
I hope you enjoy some of these!

Vopnafjörður’s Lighthouse
Looking out at sea from my hometown
This is my girlfriend
She does not like it when I take pictures of her!
This is a part of the way to her place
This is Mývatnssveit
Mývatn
A popular tourist attraction
A day at the beach
It’s nice to know about hidden beaches like this one when you need a break from university assignments
Cave life
The elephant keeps watch over Vopnafjörður
And can be frightening
Then we got snow
and some more
and it stayed there for a while
fortunately, frozen things can be beautiful
This is my mother-in-law
and my sister-in-law
and my dog-in-law
And this is where they get their Christmas tree from
Oh, and I almost forgot about the volcanic eruption
The sky was Mordor-like through out the winter
The sulfuric dioxide brought some magical colours to the sky
…and made the road to the North a lot more colourful
Bakkafjörður
I’m told that there are 27 lightposts in Bakkafjörður
Sometimes we travel to the south of Vopnafjörður
Hallormsstaður is in the East part of Iceland. The forrest of the shire and mythical stories of the Lagarfljót-Monster make it a magical place
Skriðuklaustur, the former home of the poet, Gunnar Gunnarsson
When you’ve driven through Hallormsstaður, this is what you find.
The spring is finally upon us
And we wish you a happy summer!
