I like to draw insects and other creatures in my own fantasy world. I think each time you look at one of my drawings you should find a new surprise, and if you look hard enough the viewer can find little surprises throughout the drawing.

King for a Day: Sharon Loeff

In 2014, after watching the fanfare and hoopla for Punxsutawney Phil, I imagined that this Groundhog was being honored by all his friends in his burrow on his big day in the limelight. My 18″ x 24″ graphite drawing represents 180 hours of work, but hidden in the drawing are over twenty little creatures giving the Groundhog his send off before he ascends to the world above to see if this year he will see his shadow.

The Trumpet Player: Sharon Loeff

My story started with the trumpet player who needed an audience. This graphite and watercolor pencil drawing unfolds as the group of music lovers gather to hear him play. Each of my drawings consume over one hundred hours to complete and all the creatures are my own view of their true appearance.
