Hey everybody. How’s life? Good? Good. I know this album description is long but stick with me. A little more than a month ago I sent this over the top job application to what I hoped would be my dream job. I went all out on this one and threw every last spare hour and dollar (and then some) in to making this pretty damn awesome way of applying. Long story short, it definitely got me noticed and landed me an interview but afterwards I was told they were already so fully staffed at the time that they couldn’t even take me on as an intern. It sucks but I totally understand. Business is business. Anyway, I’ve been trying really hard to land another graphic design job and I’ve sent out a bunch of applications but I could use some extra help. I figure the more people see it, the more chances I have of getting noticed at another design firm and getting a good job. So here’s where I ask for your help. Please like, share, upvote, pin, and repost the hell out of this to make it really blow up all over the internet. Thanks for your help! The Surprise

This is the first box that was delivered to the company. No context was given other than that a creative director was supposed to open it.

The Reveal

Once opened, they found a log, splitting wedge, hatchet, and a brief greeting followed by a list of instructions.

The Instructions

The instructions walked them through how to split the log in order to get at a secret package hidden inside.

The Aftermath

Once the log was split, they found a small wooden box with my full logo engraved on the cover. At this point, they were instructed to remove the keys from the box and send a text to my number to let me know they had obtained the keys.

Key Box

Here’s a closer look at the box that was in the log. Inside were two wood blocks with very strong magnets inside of them. How these keys actually worked was still a mystery to everyone at the company.

The Big Box

This box was delivered along with instructions the next day. They were told to place the keys on the icons on either side of the box and slide them along the curved arrow until they stopped. This unlocked the lid and they were able to lift it off.

The Big Reveal

Once the box was open, they were presented with a book containing my cover letter, resume, designer statement, and a unique “About Me” section. Right next to that was my portfolio containing five project books.

The Lock

When the books are taken out, there is a plexiglass panel showing how the locks work. The magnetic keys lock on to a magnet in the bottom of the latch. Then, when they are moved, the hook on the latch releases pegs on the bottom of the lid so it can be lifted off.

The Leave-Behind

I couldn’t do all that without making an all out leave-behind for after the interview. So, I made a bottle opener and coaster set. Everything connects to the stand using magnets. The bottle opener also uses a magnet to catch bottle caps on my icon.

My Mission Continues

Even though I didn’t land the job I’m keeping my head up and looking for the next great opportunity. Especially with all of your help I know I can find something awesome. Thanks again everyone! You’re all amazing.
