40 Times Doggos Acted So Ridiculously When Riding In Cars That Their Owners Just Had To Take A Pic
Our best friends, our bestest boys and girls, can become real goofballs the moment they set their paws inside cars. After all, dogs love showing off their playfulness no matter where they are. But cars have something magical about them that brings out the inner puppy in some doggos.
To brighten up your day and give you something to smile about, Bored Panda has collected some of the funniest and most wholesome photos of dogs riding in cars and all the shenanigans that they get up to. Remember to upvote your fave pics and share photos of your car canines in the comments.
While there are lots and lots of dogs that adore being chauffeured around because car rides give them a sense of adventure and resemble going hunting, other canines have an aversion to vehicles. However, there are ways to encourage your dog to love cars. The Arizona Humane Society told Bored Panda that owners have to use positive reinforcement to get dogs to behave in a certain way. Read on for the AHS team’s insights.

Kelsey Dickerson from the Arizona Humane Society explained that dogs can be very responsive to their owners’ moods and will often respond to their tone of voice, body language, and demeanor in any situation.
“It is always recommended to use positive reinforcement when your pet is exhibiting behavior that is wanted by giving them high-value treats, verbal praise, and love!” she explained. So if you want your dog to learn to love car rides, positive reinforcement is the way to go and you should steer clear of punishing your pet.
“It is especially important to never punish your pet after it has exhibited a behavior you do not like unless you are actually catching them in the act. When you punish a pet for something it did previously, they do not have the cognitive ability to understand what you are punishing them for and it may even increase the unwanted behavior by causing your pet to have extra stress and anxiety.”
One reason that dogs might avoid car rides is that they associate the trips with negative experiences. For instance—going to the vet or getting carsick.
Meanwhile, shelter dogs might have had traumatic experiences linked to cars that you don’t know about.
Whatever the reason why your dog might be afraid of cars, the steps that you can take to encourage your dog to join you on car rides are simple enough. They just require patience, love, and understanding.

If your dog is carsick, The Spruce Pets suggests that you get over-the-counter medicine to ease their motion sickness. Obviously, ask your vet for their advice first. Oh, and just to be safe, avoid going for a ride whenever your dog just ate.
However, if your dog is scared of car rides, you’ll have to put in much more effort. But the gist is simple: bit by bit, you have to help your dog associate rides with positive experiences. Treats, praise, toys, and belly rubs can help you ‘bribe’ your dog to approach the vehicle and then get inside.
The important thing is to make sure that your dog doesn’t feel trapped inside. Keep up the encouragement as you start up your engine; make sure to go for shorter trips first. And remember—you can’t rush these things, but soon enough your doggo will a happy car-riding goofball like the rest of ‘em.

Looks like he's harnessed in. They make safety harnesses so you can lock in your pupper safely. Hope that's what they did anyway.

A lot of people just put their dog in the open back of a truck in Idaho. I see it all the time and really hate it.
With that long neck and his pouffed out cheeks, he looks rather like a llama.
i see nothing wrong with this, the dog is properly harnessed. and just because they do this doesn't make them shitty. there could've been many reasons for this. back when i was younger and had a dog we'd put her at the back of the truck for one of many reasons. but one was she was a big time shedder (she was a husky wolf mix), two she was just absolutely huge even as a pup, three there was 7 people to fit on one truck during road trips, she was lucky while we had the short end of the stick, and four, though she loved road trips she would at times get car sick, mostly when she was let inside the truck along with a few other reasons, but hey... and might i add we love our animals to the fullest. stop bashing this person. and for others who are doing so as well. though it is illegal is some of your states to do this, it's not in others, and so stop telling people how to deal and care for their animals, this dog is clearly healthy and happy, and well taken care of.
And this is why a thousand dogs due every year in the US alone. Stupid owners!

We used to do this will our dogs growing up. My dad would let the dog sit in the bed of the truck if we ever took her anywhere. It kept her from jumping out once. It was pretty normal to see in the 80's. But I also never heard much about animal abuse back then either. Everyone just had dogs because they were part of the family and treated them well.

A tuck is bigger than a ute and has more than four wheels, and hulls anything from food, logs, grains well anything really. So if a ute is called a truck, then what do you call a truck? They can't both be called a "truck". That is just wrong. So enlighten me please.

These pictures are super cute but I get nervous about all the dog’s having their heads outside moving vehicles without eye protection. Grandparents Shih tzu went blind in one eye when car kicked up gravel. Hard learned lesson but nowadays she wears fancy doggles when enjoying the breeze. Btw sorry about any spelling errors, English is not my native language.

Am I the only one who has panic attacks when they see unrestrained puppers hanging out of the car window?? Even worse when I see those poor babies in truck beds. One slight bump... SMH.
I agree. In fact a neighbor allowed her dog's puppies to be loose in their pickup and one did fall out as they drove around 45 mph on the blvd. He was horrifically, massively injured and died in her arms right there on the highway... I had no words. What do you say to such people? They're too stupid and careless to waste time on. THEY don't deserve to live or have pets.

These are hilarious! On a serious note, it's a bad idea to let your dog put his/her head out of the window. Can lead to ear infections.

As cute as these pictures may be, it is imperative to crate your dog in a moving vehicle.
It's not the thing to do, to let them ride without protection. But you have to admit the expressions they have on their faces- the captions just explode in your head. A lot of the funniest ones the car was stopped.
Okay...call me anything you want, but if you had picked up as many hurt, injured or even dead dogs from traffic accidents as I have...you'd probably not smile at these images. PLEASE restrain your dog in a car!! If at all possible, a hard-sided crate that you can lock down or strap down is best. If there is no room for this, then at least find someway to ensure your dog will not become a flying object in a collision. I've seen badly injured dogs in even fender-bender type accidents. Dogs that are allowed to keep their heads out while riding are subject to eye injuries and may even have head/neck injuries when the car is forced to swerve or stop rapidly. Dogs are somewhat like kids...they don't know what is best for them, but as a responsible owner/handler, you need to take charge to ensure their safety. Please keep them safe!

I really think bored panda needs to take some advise on animal welfare. I'm admittedly not an expert, but I don't think it's prudent and possibly reckless to allow articles where animal welfare falls short. It advocates and possibly promotes behaviour that some might deem detrimental to an animals welfare. Perhaps consider or even consult wild life organizations next time you post an article where people interfere with wild animals or endanger their own pets as was the case in this article. I'm fairly sure every photograph was taken by somebody driving. I worry that others will do likewise and disregard animal welfare for the sake of posting.
After having my Labrador Retriever tossed from the very back of a V.W. bus all the way to the floor of the front seat, when I had to make a very sudden stop. She was scared out of her mind. My husband and I put together a sturdy harness to restrain her in the back seat.
I pray that someday, EVERY dog on earth will have an opportunity to enjoy moments like these. Sadly, I doubt that will be in my generation.
