Isn’t it ironic that in New York —the city with the highest index of food waste in the world— 60.144 homeless people struggle to eat every day?

Foodxury is a project that illustrates this problem. A jewelry collection that exposes what food means to an alarming number of people. It will be sold by those who need help.

Each piece of jewelry represents a meal that a regular person has on a daily basis. I sculpt every piece with polymer clay and I provide the homeless with cardboard stands containing jewelry pieces to be traded for each real meal.

About the artist:
Micaela Gallino is an Argentinian art director based in NYC. When moving to the States she thought she was not going to see much of poverty or hungry homeless people. She was wrong.

Not long ago, she randomly ended up on a Saturday afternoon learning how to craft miniatures in polymer-clay. Anxious to use this just gained knowledge she came up with Foodxury.
