Turbans have been part of American experience for well over 100 years but today more than ever for many Americans they elicit a negative visceral response. As part of these events I share my story via cartoons, screen a short 10 minute film, ‘Red, White and Beard’ about my exploits as a turbaned, bearded Captain America battling ignorance and intolerance on the streets of America. Then I work with young school children on an interactive cartoon workshop with only one rule. Create some fresh character or scene that has never been done before. Make it your own.

Some of the children seeing me in person in my blue turban, sparsely populated DNA spiral beard & animated by the short film make the choice to import the turban into their own imagination. The 15 pieces below were created by middle school students in San Francisco as their first turban art ever. Enjoy the American Turban!
