Over 75K People On Tumblr Can’t Get Enough Of This Fictional Story About A Daycare Worker Watching Over Toddlers During The End Of The World
At times, these past months (and even the whole year) have felt as if we’ve been living through the literal end of the world. I mean, we’re in the middle of a global pandemic, there’s no vaccine yet, we can’t leave our homes whenever we’d like, and at this point, the future looks mostly blurry. On top of that, we’ve got all these global, environmental, and social issues.
And maybe that’s part of the reason why this fictional story about a daycare worker watching over toddlers during the end of the world managed to touch the hearts of so many people on Tumblr.

Someone on Tumblr came up with an interesting topic for the writers of the platform to write a short story around

Basically, the Tumblr account writing-prompt-s invited the writers of the platform to come up with stories surrounding the topic of the end of the world. “You’re a daycare worker, watching over toddlers, when the imminent end of the world is announced. It becomes increasingly clear none of the kids’ parents are going to show up as the end inches nearer,” they wrote in their post.
One of the replies stood out in particular and it was an emotional short story by a user named bethanythemartian.
This fictional story currently has almost 50k likes and over 30k reblogs

Thousands of people on Tumblr as well as on other platforms seem to be deeply touched by this short story. “Oh god, I’m actually crying right now. That was a roller coaster and I totally feel for her. Wonderful writing,” someone commented. “Listen. I read this near to a week back and when I tell you I think about it every single day I am not exaggerating in the slightest,” another user added. “This was so precision targeted to destroy me emotionally that I can barely read my screen right now. Great work,” another person writes.
As you can see, the creator of the story invites everyone who found themselves enjoying the story to donate to Planned Parenthood, Lambda Legal, or another kind of bail fund.

Share on FacebookI'm telling you - there's gonna be a movie. I'm just saying there should be. Very unique script. Love it.
NO NO NO. You do not get to that to me. I mean, bringing those onions in here, throwing dust in my eyes, then onions again
I can tell she is genuinely a nice person and loves kid cause she asked to donate to planned parenthood. Anybody who supports planned parenthood is a intellectual with a big heart on all matters that r kids
Have people on Tumblr etc stopped reading books? For what seems to be an exercise in creative writing to receive unbridled praise like this, doesn't this lead you to suspect that the reading experience is rather novel to a lot of those people?
I read a book a week, this is so genuine - and it comes so close - that it touched me deeply. It is well written.
Load More Replies...I remember seeing the original post on Tumblr, it was incredible
I'm very confused about the ending, heh. But was a very good story still ^^ well done to the writer.
Great. First I hear that Charlie from the Daily Coyote has died, and now this story. I don't have any tears left in my body!!
Short, but awesome story. I just with those darn onion ninjas didn't crash into the room just as I got to the end.
Wow... I'm... In awe, honestly. This was extremely emotional. I RARELY cry at stories, but this... This had me crying. I hope I'm not alive when the world ends. I... don't know what I would do
I'd have a ball playing with toddlers. Or working at an animal shelter, I'd be playing with the puppers when the end comes
I think it would have been a better story if what was going to happen actually did. Happy endings don't always make sense to every story.
WOAH I got I Am Legend vibes from listening to this for no reason. I got chills
Wait, this universe has SUPERHEROES?! Nobody would panic, LOL. People always wait for the last minute if there is a little hope. Plus some people wouldn't even believe that the meteor exists, saying it's just a hoax. And when the end doesn't come, they tell: "See? I told you! They just put on a show to manipulate us, this world-saving stunt was fake."
