There are so many dog breeds, it's incredibly easy to mistake one pooch for another. Luckily, St. Louis-based artist Grace Gogarty (a.k.a. Little Tunny) has created a comprehensive comic series that will help you identify most of the dog types.
"I've been drawing comics since I was a kid," Grace told Bored Panda. "I absolutely love animals, so that's usually my focus! I worked as a supervisor at a doggy daycare for years and got to meet lots of dogs. The cartoon dogs featured in this guide are the breeds I met the most of."
The artist has divided the series into three parts - big, medium, and small dog breeds, so no k9s are left behind. Great Danes? Check. Border Collies, Yorkshire Terriers? Yep. Pugs, Golden Retrievers, and German Shepherds? Yup. "Sadly, I haven't met every dog in the word yet so that I couldn't write about them all," Grace said. "Although I stereotype them, all dogs are wonderful individuals, so I couldn't possibly pick a favorite breed!"
Among the animals Gogarty owns, there's one pooch as well. "His Name is Huey, and he is an enigma. We have no idea what kind of breeds he's comprised of!" I always feel sorry for huskies who are adopted by lazy people. They should get a lazy dog or a goldfish.
Labs are great! They are smart, and loyal,....if you can keep them at home. They're Big-Time roamers. Unfortunately, they don't do all that well in the house. My black Lab, 'Captain Black' had a lethal tail, which was always sweeping back and forth. Unfortunately, he could clear a coffee table in a matter of just a few seconds. The Captain was the main reason why I happily switched from red wine to white wine. Oh, and the Captain sure could fart up a storm too. :D
2 Dobermans used to bark furiously at me every morning as I walked to school bus. One morning I spoke to them. Then on, our routine was they would wait for me eagerly every morning, and I would stop and talk to them. They were happy to see me.
Nonono german Shepards are just floofy boofs, and squishy boopers
The Yorkshire terrier will also show its affection by nipping your ankles. They have teeth sharp enough to draw blood at every nip. (Don't tell me that I should break them of that habit, please -- they're not my dogs but a friend's.)
Still miss ours. He was awesome. Never really had to train him and he listened perfectly. Would just walk near you and come when called. Kinda obsessed about bananas and would do anything for 1. (Stole a whole bunch of the table once... Silly dog) He hated water so when it was bath time, I would just get in the shower with him and close the door. He loved getting brushed and groomed though.
Also Food machine, also needs unlimited times of trecking unless it's hot.
The border collie needs to have work to do or it will be neurotic. If you don't have time to spend training your dog, get something less intelligent. Sometimes a border collie will herd your kids to keep them from getting separated from you.
Tsundere lol that actually sums it up pretty well. Mine sometimes wants to be pet hard and long, but mostly she'll lay down somewhere close and love you from a distance - just don't touch her or she'll leave.

I have a Shiba and he definitely has a "don't touch me, bro" attitude a lot of the time. He will get up and leave the bed in the middle of the night if you pet him or move too much. lol

Rafaella, we have a Shiba, and basically as regards being petted, or anything but being loved from afar, Shibas are just smaller Akitas. Very closely related genetically.
Drama Queen/King! My Shiba tenses up so badly that her toes spread, when you grab her or act like you’re going to try to hold her.
When I had my akita, she absolutely loved every single person she ever met..especially kids. She loved to be petted and to give kisses and she was a major leaner. Anytime someone would start to pet her, she would lean against their legs, even complete strangers.
Meeting other dogs, he just wants to say hi, or hello. Quick butt sniff, and he's ready to go. Doesn't want to play, doesn't want to talk about the game or the weather... hi and bye!! Lol
Our Shiba is my best Bud! If we're at one of the beach bars, he's social and loves the attention. When HE's taking us on OUR walks, he doesn't like to be interrupted.. " why are we stopping? Who is this and why is she touching me... LET's GOOO!!! Lol!
My shiba is fond of the "chase me around before you can pet me" variety. He is stereotypical of his breed. Very catlike. Would rather approach you. If you approach him, he is outta there. And he does the shiba scream if he is at the vet and groomers unless I am shoving treats in his face. Beautiful to look at, but a nut.
It used to be Shiba yes screamed if you touch them, now they only do that is you touch their toenails! lol Plus they do NOT swear. they are always ladies and gentlemen even screaming lol
Was owned by one psychopath Shiba. Would bite me as soon as look at me, but toally devoted at the same time. My other 5 (including my two current) are big shedders (both blowing coats right now) and only do the Shiba scream if getting a bath or being groomed. Total love bugs.
Yes! I knew a black shiba that Had to have been possessed by Satan! It would snap at his owners if a stranger got too close to him/them. And his screaming wail was closer to a loose fan belt echoing in a metal
I guess I've got a weirdo. We've had him for a year but he's a 4 yr old rescue. Loves pets, loves to be picked up or to sleep near or on people, and he's super quiet. He barks every once in a while at new people until they pet him and makes squeaky yawns but nothing otherwise. I'm pretty sure if he could lick/give kisses to people all day and never have to sleep he would.
My rescued Shiba, after two years of "50 First Dates" will nowadays accept affection, petting and lying next to me on the couch or on the bed, but it has to be on his terms. If he gets in a mood where he doesn't want to be touched, he will just very slowly and politely withdraw and go to one of his many hidey-holes around the house, where he can stare at me lovingly from a distance. As for strangers being able to pet him? No way. But he only does the Shiba "scream" thing when he gets excited seeing another dog.
Oh man my Shibe is a 4 yr old rescue, we've had him for 1yr. He's not only very quiet but also the biggest cuddler. He sleeps on the bed with us, is always at my feet, will lean into your pets, loves to be picked up (even tho he's a bit bigger than average) and the kisses...so many kisses...almost too many kisses, almost. I'm pretty glad I found a weirdo.
My shiba likes to be held like a baby and sleeps right next to me all night long.
Ours loves to be petted, but screams like he's being skinned alive when a leash is being put on him (or on our basenji).

I have a 'don't touch me bro' inu (or ill hide away in a hole ive dug in the bush) and a 'touch me now' (inu or ill paw you until you are scratched to s**t). Dont touch me bro is our boy. Skittish but when he gives you his full attention its special.
I agree to some extent. My shiba has become much more affectionate over the years to my husband and me, but less open to strangers now. Overall, she'd rather give us kisses than receive them :)
I've come to know boxers as social dogs that love to play and hug...

In my seventy plus years, I have always been a dog lover/owner. Big dogs, medium dogs, and small ones. But when I got my first shih-tzu I've never looked back since. They're very energetic, love kids, easy to hold, and the most expensive part to them is the grooming every 6-7 weeks. They don't eat a lot, and best of all, they don't leave big piles that need cleaning up. Oh, and they look like hairy little children, in need of affection. I love my CharlieK. Period!

Yes! My dad has a Jack Russell Terrier and he's very similar to a rat terrier. He's extremely possessive of Dad to the point where we have to lock him downstairs when the grandkids come over, otherwise he attacks them!

Loved the descriptions, but I learned more about each breed from the comments then the drawings. I loved reading everyone's stories about their dogs, sooooo funny! My family has had a few dogs over the years, different breeds, and some were on this list, and the descriptions fit. More so the descriptions from the comments, but some from the list too.

Buried my last cat 2 yrs. ago and new landlord says no more animals in the building. :( I miss having the companionship even though she was a bit demanding. Actually, not so much demanding as just climbing into my lap and helping herself to whatever I was eating. lol.. I still remember getting up to get a glass of milk from the fridge and coming back to find she had snagged the entire T-bone off my plate and stalked off with it.

My experience with a rottweiler is "looks like a tough guard dog but most people can out run them..." The one that we were taking care of with our two dogs (one a chow mix and the other a black lab/shepherd mix) could never keep up with the other two dogs nor our neighbor's dogs. He was always left in their dust.
I have a border collie husky mix, hes not like a husky or a border collie at all. Except the running part.

I might get my feet wet. But if yours get wet stepping in my puddle, that's cool. Where's Daddy and when's snuggle time? Clean up my pee and feed me, then you're going to snuggle me. Hit repeat and do it all again tomorrow.

In that context a pet is a pat as in a scratch behind the ears. Forever. Don't stop. Ever lol

Here in Brazil you'll pretty much only ever find mutts in shelters - breed dogs are too expensive, only occasionally you'll see someone donate one, regardless of age or conditions - but whenever I see these posts, people will always talk about having a bunch of breed rescue dogs.
Rafaella, approximately 25% of the dogs in shelters are pure breed dogs. Lots of folks adopt dogs not understanding how much time and commitment they require and those pups end up in shelters. I work in rescue and we have SO MANY pure breed dogs it's crazy! There are even rescues all over the country that are breed specific so they can offer the appropriate care for specific breeds - so Labradors, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Grayhounds, Bulldogs, and tons of others have whole rescue organizations dedicated to rescuing and finding homes for specific breeds. We have lots of mutts too, but there are pure breeds everywhere. Pretty odd, huh?

HAHAHAHAHAHA this has something true, but please #AdoptDontShop, if you´re searching for a special dog breed because of its character you can also find it at the shelters, but all the mutts´re also adorable, plus usually mutts get older than purebred dogs, especially the smaller ones!!!
Dobermann: That's not true ! Who wrote it? I bet that person has never had or saw a Dobermann in his/her life. They are gentle, but only to their family and their friends. Because trust me, you would not want to meet them with its owner in a dark... They were used during WWII by Germans,,, and do you know why? No? Then maybe you should take some history lessons on the Internet. But you can bet they weren't scared of anything. Because of their "role" in WWII people hated them later, they were scared of them, they knew you shouldn't mess with them. These dogs are not for fun, they are not your sleeping buddies. And believe me, if you know how to properly raise them and train them, you don't need a gun to protect yourself..... And one more thing: if you see a Dobermann who is scared of himself you know his owner doesn't have what it takes to raise him and you can bet he doesn't treat him well and he is hurting him. _FACT_ I know, I have them my whole life.
I took it that the tv lies about them being scary because they are even afraid of themselves like being afraid of your own shadow. I grew up with Dobies and I too defend their reputation. I never had an aggressive one and in my experience they are women’s dogs gravitating more to the females in the home. I have had five between childhood at home and then on my own and all of them were like that. They can be trained like many other breeds to be protectors making excellent guard dogs but as family pets they are wonderful . Society has chosen different breeds throughout time to demonize and that breed suffers for it. At one time it was the Doberman, another it was Rotties. As of late it’s been pitties.all of which I adore and have owned both Pitties and Dobies without incident. I had close friends with Rotties and never a problem. It’s all in who owns them,how they’re trained, and WHAT they are trained for. like German Shepherds can be viscious as part of K-9 but are great as family dogs

All people I know who had a dog were oh so happy to not have one anymore. None of my friends got a second dog after the first one passed away and they all enjoyed the newly-gained free time...
Then it was the correct decision not to get another doggie for those people. Caring for a dog (or any animal) appropriately, takes lots of time, money, and love. I cherish my pups and would be very unhappy without one, and I will continue to rescue as long as I'm able. But if a person does not enjoy and/or care for their pup(s) fully, they absolutely should not get another.

HAHAHAHAHAHA this has something true, but please #AdoptDontShop, if you´re searching for a special dog breed because of its character you can also find it at the shelters, but all the mutts´re also adorable, plus usually mutts get older than purebred dogs, especially the smaller ones!!!
Dobermann: That's not true ! Who wrote it? I bet that person has never had or saw a Dobermann in his/her life. They are gentle, but only to their family and their friends. Because trust me, you would not want to meet them with its owner in a dark... They were used during WWII by Germans,,, and do you know why? No? Then maybe you should take some history lessons on the Internet. But you can bet they weren't scared of anything. Because of their "role" in WWII people hated them later, they were scared of them, they knew you shouldn't mess with them. These dogs are not for fun, they are not your sleeping buddies. And believe me, if you know how to properly raise them and train them, you don't need a gun to protect yourself..... And one more thing: if you see a Dobermann who is scared of himself you know his owner doesn't have what it takes to raise him and you can bet he doesn't treat him well and he is hurting him. _FACT_ I know, I have them my whole life.
I took it that the tv lies about them being scary because they are even afraid of themselves like being afraid of your own shadow. I grew up with Dobies and I too defend their reputation. I never had an aggressive one and in my experience they are women’s dogs gravitating more to the females in the home. I have had five between childhood at home and then on my own and all of them were like that. They can be trained like many other breeds to be protectors making excellent guard dogs but as family pets they are wonderful . Society has chosen different breeds throughout time to demonize and that breed suffers for it. At one time it was the Doberman, another it was Rotties. As of late it’s been pitties.all of which I adore and have owned both Pitties and Dobies without incident. I had close friends with Rotties and never a problem. It’s all in who owns them,how they’re trained, and WHAT they are trained for. like German Shepherds can be viscious as part of K-9 but are great as family dogs
Load More Replies... All people I know who had a dog were oh so happy to not have one anymore. None of my friends got a second dog after the first one passed away and they all enjoyed the newly-gained free time...
Then it was the correct decision not to get another doggie for those people. Caring for a dog (or any animal) appropriately, takes lots of time, money, and love. I cherish my pups and would be very unhappy without one, and I will continue to rescue as long as I'm able. But if a person does not enjoy and/or care for their pup(s) fully, they absolutely should not get another.
