You can hear people call him a beggar,an angel, but he’s just our Dyado Dobry (Grandpa Dobry).
In 2014 he turned 100 years.
He’s a bulgarian donor who gives his 150 leva pension and the money that he collects to restore temples and churches throughout in Bulgaria.
Dyado Dobry lost most of his hearing in World War II.He spends his life traveling about 25 kilometres by foot every day, dressed in his homemade clothes and his leather shoes, from his village to Sofia,Bulgaria where he spends the day, begging for money!!
Dyado Dobry is not a begger! He doesn’t keep a cent from the money that he receives. Can you call a man like him a “begger”?Does he keep that money for him? No.He donates them to the churches and temples in Bulgaria. He even forgot his own needs to raise money for lofty mission, far from the material benefits. To donate to the church means to bestow on generations, of faith in a godly future to build a benevolent Bulgarians. This is what Elder Dobry thinks he does without expecting gratitude.
Dyado Dobry has 4 children, and sadly,he outlived two of them.
Now one of his daughters takes care of him, although he lives in Sofia. He does not hide his bitterness by false rumors that disinherited his family and has donated the money from the sold property . That’s why he doesn’t share any details about his family any more. . In recent years Elder Dobry most often goes to the church of “St. Alexander Nevski” and the church of”Holy Seven Saints” in Sofia. He collects money needed for the restoration of the church of “St. Cyril and Methodius” in Baylivi – 10 000 Levs. Has made donations for the renovation of the churches in Kalofer and Poibrene. The old man had given 25000 leva to the Eleshnishkiya monastery and the church in Gorno Kamartsi for their restoration. The
largest contribution, however, which helps to promote the work of the saint from Bajlovo, is undoubtedly for the temple-monument of “St. Alexander Nevsky.” But the unbearable amount of 35 000 lev the good old man has collected for years to be donated to the largest Christian church in the country.
Dyado Dobry is considered as one of the most crowning moral examples not only in Bulgaria, but in the whole world.
With the gifts the good Elder gives he can be compared with another one well known but unreal old man – Santa Claus. Elder Dobry does not take the children bears, dolls and trucks but gives them his example, transmits them hope to become a more honorable and spiritually uplifted people.
And who does not believe in Santa Claus can believe in this good old man. It means to believe in goodness.

The saint from Bulgaria.
