We are two female artists from Montreal, Canada. Our mission ? Photograph 1001 women’s bums in order to celebrate beauty, curves, visual poetry and self esteem !

We started this project in november 2014 because we realized that most of us, women (and men!) go grow up having so many complexes. One above all : we hate our bums. To flat, to long, to round, to soft, to old…what is a nice body?

A lot of the projects about body diversity or nude photography are made by men and most of these photography projects forget to picture one very important thing : vulnerability and poetry. We didn’t want to take studio photos with ladies bare naked, in a cold set up and bright digital pictures.

We wanted to meet those women of all ages, in their intimacy, their homes. Or in beautiful landscapes where femininity and female strength are everywhere noticeable. We use a Mamya film camera and use only day light when taking the pictures.

Our pictures always show anonymous women. The idea is not to show one particular woman’s butt, but to illustrate diversity and beauty, in all of it’s forms. We never use lingerie, we never show breasts or use sexual poses…this project is about being a woman, not an object or a piece of meet.

Our plan is to photograph women from all around the world. We now have 400 models waiting to be photographed, you can join the movement by being part of our facebook group for volunteers : 1001 FESSES modèles . We know most of our models are caucasian, that’s because we work with volunteers and so far only a few women of other skin color have showed their interest ! But we can’t wait to photograph every single beautiful body out there !

To do so, we started a crowd-funding campaign to go on a 1001Fesses World Tour. Contribute here and watch our video : www.ulule.com/1001fesses

We used to have 6500 fans on Facebook but this social network recently unpublished our page because of nudity ( we were always careful to censure our pictures ). You can still try to find us in case the page gets published again: www.facebook.com/1001fesses
