Thai Woman Uses Turmeric For Her Cat’s Fungal Infection, And The Cat Accidentally Turns Yellow (12 Pics)

Interview With Owner
ADVERTISEMENT

Have you ever seen a real-life Pikachu cat? Well, if you haven’t, we should warn you that we wouldn’t recommend doing this to your pets without the consultation of experts. Facebook user and cat enthusiast Thammapa Supamas from Thailand accidentally turned her cat yellow when she applied turmeric to treat her fungal infection. Scroll down for Bored Panda‘s interview with the owner!

More info: Facebook

This poor cat had a fungal infection

So her owner applied a turmeric scrub to cure it

Supamas was worried about her cat’s infection so she asked her mother for advice. She suggested applying turmeric—an Indian spice and medicinal herb used to treat infections. “My cat Ka-Pwong had ringworm, we did everything to cure it, but nothing worked. That was when my mother had the idea of using turmeric. At first, she painted it on the ringworm but as there was a lot left, she decided to paint the whole body to prevent future mycoses,” said Supamas to Bored Panda.

Unfortunately, the turmeric scrub changed the color of her fur but seemed to have worked

However, once this Indian spice was applied to Ka-Pwong’s distinct white fur, it immediately turned it yellow. Moreover, the problem appeared when it came to washing the distinct color off as it wouldn’t wash off. As her whole body was covered in turmeric to prevent the infection from spreading further, the poor cat turned into a yellow creature. Much like Pikachu from the animated series Pokemon. “My cat may not even know it turns yellow now. Now the cat is cheerful and eats a lot as usual.”

However, the poor cat turned yellow

To everyone’s concern, the owner reassured people that the Indian spice helped to cure Ka-Pwong’s infection. It “reduced itching and not licking the wound area.” However, the treatment shouldn’t be repeated without consulting a vet. Supamas says that she hopes that the color will fade away in 3 months and her fur will change. “I hope the fungus is cured, I still have to hope that my cat will turn white as well.”

Here’s how she looked before and after the turmeric scrub

The owner thought that she looked like Pikachu so she photoshopped a few features onto her photos

She decided to post the pictures of her accidental mistake and it went viral, gaining thousands of shares, likes, and comments from people around the world. Many found the funny side of the accident and agreed that Ka-Pwong looked like Pikachu. Supamas even promptly photoshopped a few graphic features onto her photos to make it look even more similar to the character.

If the only side effect was that the cat turned yellow and that the turmeric actually treated her ringworm, I don't think it's really that bad. Hopefully she'll eventually regain her white coat, but until then, she looks adorable!

if there are no side effects apart being adorably yellow and the ring worm is cured...then let's call it a success! I am sure she will return white eventually

It's really cool that the owner took care of it with an harmless natural product, don't mind the color it will disappear. My fawn and white american stafforshire had canine atopic dermatitis and when he was itchy i used to bath him with sidr (jujube leaves powder). The white parts were a bit green after it but that was really effective to calm the itches, i didn't mind having a "semi-hulk" dog for a while after the baths, i saved him from a lot of corticosteroïds treatments which are far from harmless. If it works, it works, and if it works without side effects it's even better, color is not really a side effect i would take into consideration.

If some of you were concerned about canine atopic dermatitis. I didn't managed it with just sidr, i used sidr to calm the itches, and i fed him with mainly chicken and white meat (avoiding pork for Aujesky disease when giving raw) and some vegetables, best quality oils (olive, cannabis, linen...,omega 3 and 6 balance and vitamin E are really important), steam cleaning the house and toys... and once a year with some pollens periods, i had to put some corticoïd cream between his fingers, just once in a year. And i never had to gave him corticosteroids or antibiotics like the first year of his life, like some vet said it was "mandatory" to do so. NO. Thanks to others vets and some research from me he had a great life until he got bone cancer at almost 10. And thanks to him i now own a degree in animal biology and behavior at 33 years old. Because he was important for me and i did some research, and i made it far...because he was worthing it!

This reminds me of the seagull that turned a toxic shade of orange after it fell into a huge vat of chicken tikka masala in Wales: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-36490552 The turmeric colour should eventually wash out of the cat's fur after several washes. (That must be one docile cat to let it's owner bath it and cover it in turmeric. Most cats would have clawed your eyes out.) Hopefully, the owner will consult a vet in the future when it comes to treating their pets. In the meantime, they will just have a very yellow and rather pungent smelling cat.

Read: "actual cats would have clawed your eyes out". But the flavour would have stopped the cat from cleaning itself, giving the treatment its chance to work...

Yeah, right? In a country where turmeric is used in everyday cooking this story is quite unlikely. I mean you touch it once and your fingers are stained for days.

lol I like the yellow. Turmeric actually safe and good for your cat, the powder helps kill the worm, digestion, and skin issues. You can make a paste and feed them with cat food, also work for your dog and human.

I seriously doubt the cat had a fungal infection over its ENTIRE BODY. The woman obviously decided to have a bit of "Sanook" ("Fun" in Thai).

Hello concerned people, I've tried this on my dog and it works wonders and although it takes a while, it does eventually wash off and fade. A little bit of turmeric mixed with coconut oil is like magic and I did not have to worry about my dog licking off harmful chemicals from ointments. I also add a little bit of both every once in a while to pet food. And it's tremendously easy to grow, it required almost no care.

Cats tend to lick off anything you put on their fur, so be extremely careful what you put on their fur.

It was obviously not an accident. The color has been added, faded away and re-added on several occasions. You can tell by the cats face from picture to picture. This is just a case of somebody abusing an animal for attention on the Internet.

Go to a damned vet and get over yourself. You are NOT a doctor and abusing animals based on the b******t mumblings of people who don't know what they're talking about tells me that you shouldn't be permitted a pet in the first place.

1) Turmeric and saffron are two very different things. And 2) clearly it was put on more than once because the amount of yellow is on the cat's face is different in the pictures.

Yes, it's different. The owner clearly didn't want to put turmeric into the cat's eyeballs. Would you have been less critical if the poor kitty got the paste in their eyes?
