This Is What Happens When A Photographer Babysits Your Cat (10 Pics)

If you have a pet and for whatever reason, leave it with someone else, your mind is asking a lot of questions. Are they feeding it enough and on time? Are they cleaning up after it? And so on. But when Miranda McDonald asked her friend Josell Mariano to take care of her cute cat Jade, he stepped up. And by stepped up, I mean he not only made sure Jade had everything she needed but threw her a surprise pet photography photoshoot as well. Man, I need to get myself some new friends.

“My friend is a photographer for musical artists and was on tour for 2 months for Julia Micheals and Bea Miller so I had Jade all that time,” Mariano told Bored Panda. “[She] is an adorable cat! Every morning, she jumps on the bed for pets and cuddles, and the same at night when we go to sleep. The rest of the day, she follows me from room to room, usually finding a sunbeam to sleep in. Things she gets scared of are loud noises, soft noises, sudden movements, slow movements.”

When you think about it, Mariano was the perfect man for the job. He has an 8-year-old black lab mix himself so he’s no stranger to paws. “I love cats!” he said. “Love animals in general, but cats are cool because they just feel like a furry roommate (and much cuter). They generally take care of themselves, but are still down to keep you company while you watch TV or something.”

Mariano, who’s both an actor and a professional photographer, is very familiar with being in front of and behind the camera. “I used a 6Dmk2 with an f/2.8 24-70LII, and an f/1.4 50mm. Lighting is an Einstein strobe with a 24-inch beauty dish,” he said. His skills aside, the beautiful cat also did quite a nice job posing for the pet portraits. “Jade was a better model than I thought but was still super wiggly,” Mariano added. “She was distracted by treats and her favorite toy (which is a broken string on a stick).”

This cat looks like my friends cat, Cary. She's a loving kitty that greets every stranger with a soft "meow." My friend has a husband in a wheelchair from a stroke he had almost 8 years ago (paralyzed down his right side.) The cat hangs out on the back of his recliner when he's in the living room and sleeps up next to his tummy when her husband is in bed. And if the paramedics come by to help lift him up when he's fallen (has weak legs), she sits up near the door so the paramedics can pet her as they walk out. Kind of her way of saying thank you.
