The moment of sharing a meal has always been important in my family. It has been the skeleton that kept my family together. It was the social event of the day and we spoke about everything. Since my sister moved out and my parent divorced, that moment has disappeard and the family ties started to fray. We started family counseling to give insight in the family ties and to improve them. But we had only ten sessions and to me it seamed quite time consuming to improve family ties by using verbal communication in only ten sessions. I wanted to design a tool that could skip a lot of the verbal communication and start communicating in a more physical way. I created a table that forces the people who are sitting at the table, to work together constantly in order to relax a bit. When I hosted a dinner for my family at this table it was clear that we really had to work toghether and that characteristics increased. Even though my family was already very close, we all agreed that the table works very well to bring out difficulties between family members or to reunite them.
