When I was nine years old I saw Steve Reeves in “Hercules”. I said to myself, “that’s what I want to be.” Unfortunately for a Roman Catholic boy in the 1950’s that was a sinful desire. A couple other guys my age you’ve heard of-Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone were also inspired by Steve Reeves. They acted on their inspiration. I didn’t. I never wanted to be a movie star. I just wanted to be in movies where I could wear some kind of armor and show off my physique.

Sixty years later, my children are grown, I’m semi-retired, my friends are dying of natural causes and the ‘adults’ who told me I couldn’t do things are gone. One great thing about the sixties is that old taboos start falling off like so much dead skin. I took up weight training and made a radical change in my physique. I’m an old ripped guy now. So I decided it was time to chase that dream of becoming a Hollywood extra.

The first stop on that trip is having a professional head shot plus some other photos. I found a local fashion photographer who was also just about to launch a modeling agency. To my surprise after our session I appeared on her roster of agency models. Here I am now, a 68 year old male fashion model as excited as ever about my future. Amazing what can happen when you follow your dreams-even if it takes sixty years to realize them.
