Daniel Leighton is a Los-Angeles based artist who recently opened his second solo exhibition, “Permission to Enter,” at the Los Angeles Art Association’s Gallery 825. His new body of digital paintings takes the viewer through an emotional journey, delving into both visually and thematically more abstract territory with an evolved narrative. Having been diagnosed and hospitalized with Crohn’s disease when he was five, Leighton draws inspiration from the trauma that occurred from ensuing operations and hospitalizations. He makes work about memories, emotions, and his future, dreaming of a life free from illness and trauma.

After graduating from UC Berkeley with a BA in Filmmaking, Daniel worked across the board with heavy hitting technology enterprises including CNET, Intel, Women in Technology International, and Paramount Pictures. He subsequently coded his own Augmented Reality app made to interact with his digital paintings. The works in Permission to Enter are brought to life through his app, creating portals to other dimensions that we could only have imagined when viewing. Now these intangible emotions and thoughts culminate in a tangible reality where we have space to feel our feelings in a world so oversaturated by technology.

“Permission to Enter” closes this Friday, November 20th, if you’re in Los Angeles be sure to stop in!
