As quarantines roll out in a number of countries, people often bury themselves in movies, social media drama or a good book. While taking a walk outside is encouraged by some governments (as long as a distance from other people is maintained), a lot of people completely forget about the outer world. Well, nature, however, does its thing nonetheless and people are noticing an unexpected outcome of the quarantine. In countries like Japan, Italy, and Thailand, people observed animals roaming the streets due to human absence.
Like in Japan, where deer that are local to Nara Park were observed taking to the streets in search of food. Usually, the park is swarming with tourists, as the Sika deer living there are a local attraction. Tourists would usually buy crackers sold at the park meant specifically to feed the deers, however as the number of visitors plummeted in recent weeks, the deer seem to have no choice but to wander out of their territory to find something to munch on.
People in Nara, Japan reported seeing deer that usually stay in the park roam out onto the streets

Plenty of photos and videos of the deer roaming the streets of Nara emerged, with people responding either in shock or awe. Twitter user okadennis who posted a number of shots of the deer reported finding the whole occasion amusing.

Another video shows a swarm of starving monkeys in a city plaza in Lopburi, Thailand
One Italian Tumblr user reported seeing wild boars walking around

Naturally, the country with over 30k cases and a severe lockdown in place, Italy, also observed a similar phenomenon. Numerous accounts of various animals (like sheep, boars and a horse!) wandering the streets appeared on Italian social media. Most of the people who posted their observances were pretty amused with the situation despite the tedious circumstances surrounding it.

Another Italian reported another animal on the loose: “In my hometown, a random horse appears”

A fellow Italian responded with a picture of sheep roaming the streets

Share on FacebookWell if it weren't for us they'd have a bigger home and better food to eat but we took up their space
Wasn't there a cable channel show about what cities would look like if humans weren't there?
The saddest thing is that, to amuse ourselves, we have trained these wild animals to depend on us to supply them with food (crackers for the deer, snacks for the monkeys), so that when something like this happens, they’ve forgotten how to forage for food on their own. On the other hand, and just as sad, the horse and sheep are domesticated animals who truly depend on us to take care of them (though they can become somewhat feral, given enough time). That tells me their keepers are unable to keep them fed and contained, so they’ve gotten through their fences and are wandering on their own, extremely vulnerable to predators and utterly incapable of fighting them off.
The monkeys in lopburi were not out due to anyone being in lockdown. Thailand wasnt anywhere near discussing the idea of lockdown at that time, never mind actually doing it, they still are not in most places, unfortunately.
Animals have it worked out.....We keep them 'locked' up, in annatural situations, to 'serve' us. Glad they can roam at will. We should never have stopped their natural way of living.
Well, leaving animals at peace and not causing unnecessary harm to them is now easier than ever.
Load More Replies...At least for the 'deer' case it's not that abnormal. I've been to Nara twice, and it's basically a massive deer sancutary. So they are probably looking for humans to feed them and are confused. Nara park has hundreds of dear roaming near the shrine and the roads etc is usually full of tourists who interact with the deer. They sell deer crackers to feed them etc. I imagine they got used to it and are wondering where the deer crackers all went, although I assume people are still feeding them.
Just goes to show you the impact we all have on wildlife. They're probably loving our quarantine.
All these animals know is cage and pens and to be hiding from humans. Now human are in confined spaces; how does it feel? Let the animals roam it was there habitat that humans took away from them. Enjoy the land while you can God creatures , you are all blessed . God did not put the plague on innocent animals but on dirty humans. I have nothing to regret. Do no wrong, feat no harm. Love you God❤️
"Animals Get Back To Their Former Territory As People Quarantine Themselves At Home"
Mother nature taking back what is rightfully hers! Love to see it ❤️
The table had turned - animals invading human space, which was taken from animals in the first place. But I worry, animals, please leave, it won't be long before "people" start massacring you.
The animals perhaps from a farm, the owners were not feeding them, so take to the road, may find a feed store, and a B&E will take place, good post, thanks !!!
I am in Sacramento, CA and I saw a wild female turkey wandering around the neighborhood yesterday. Very bizarre to see in the city.
This is totally normal to see deer at th locations show.Nothing to do with the pandemic. old videos too
I don't see how "normal" it can be. People did not and will not tolerate animals wandering in the streets. Even in India, the cow is not sacred anymore. Ahimsa - the Hindu and Buddhist doctrine of refraining from harming ANY living being, is now "optional".
Load More Replies...Not sure if this is cute or not. Hopefully the do not get used to this when life goes "back to normal", since cars will return and might run over these great animals. Hopefully not.
RL R, if life goes back to normal the next even more deadly virus is on the way; doing the same destructive thing and hoping for a different outcome is stupid.... yet, that's what will happen, people don't learn, people don't change, I guess they rather completely self-distract. How fair is it to those who understand this and are responsible? How fair is it to all other sentient life?
Load More Replies...Well if that starts happening down here in FLA then I'm out, gonna be gators, snakes, iguana, panthers, and cougars...no bueno!
A random horse appears XD I'm glad animals are taking back the city though
This is not because of Corona. These are just everyday scene at Nara.
That was the deers plan all along, Give people Corona so they can rule the world
Jamison, animals do not want to rule the world, they just want to survive; ruling the world is a human thing.
Load More Replies...These pics might have been more interesting if I hadn't already seen several articles debunking them and others like them as being fake news a few days ago. I would think that the cities returning to nature should take longer than a couple of weeks though.
I don't think that these pictures are fake, animals are pushed to extinction, their habitats taken by unscrupulous humans. What's fake about that? This is happening all the time.
Load More Replies...i saw 3 dogs, 7 cats, a horse, and a raccoon today.
Those monkeys actually scared me. Way too many at once running and shrieking.
As it should be. We are the ones that hunt and kill them for food. Now they want there home back. Sounds like a true episode of the twilight zone....
Let us not forget, we were the invaders here. These places are once theirs
Humans are the only animals that don’t have a habitat. Got it
Load More Replies...Sadly, many of these animals have been taught to rely on humans for food and now they are starving. That is what happens when we interfere with wildlife and take their habitat for ourselves. We have only ourselves to blame for the situation.
You think humans are stealing animals space? You also do it, let you kill yourself to change it.
Antek Kalinowski, if you think that you are incapable to change your destructive way of life, by all means, please kill yourself.

Do you understand it??? Nature is fighting back.
Load More Replies...It really would be, Samantanini; and couple of them down-voted your comment, I could cancel only one of them.
Load More Replies...Exactly. We've invaded their territory long enough. Far too many of one animal - humans isn't a good thing. This pandemic is Nature's Revenge.. I hope these creatures find enough to eat.
Again, a few of those arrogant people down-voted Jessica's and Sarah's, Raul's, Martha's comments. Now, you cannot even express empathy for starving animal - it bothers them so much.
Load More Replies...Because humans are the worst predator..that explains it they are no longer afraid to roam around in the absence of humans..
The sad thing is that a lot of those animals will have to surviva by themselves because most of them would normally be hand-fed by tourists. I hope people leave food out for them...
