This is tactile lighting creation that glows-in-the-dark. These lamps recycles energy by the new form of illumination. Made of 3-D handmade felt interwoven with soft silicon elements. Amelim does the entire process of creation, design and production at its workshop. The materials are imported from various countries around the world and are processed with great professional skill using traditional and modern techniques.

Australian Merino wool is processed to felt and soft silicone elements are individually cast in the studio. The phosphorescent pigment is natural and imported from depth quarries in New Zealand. These are all joined together into layers using very precise handiwork to create a rich and three-dimensional texture to achieve the final design.

This lengthy process creates a lighting sculpture with a unique organic look.

3-D Glow felt is an application that we developed for the Glow series using our own, handmade felt combined with photo-luminescent soft silicon elements inserted one-by-one into the fabric in a grid-like pattern. The final result is a three dimensional felt surface with a multitude of eyes that inverts its own design into a magical, glowing form.

Amelim at Milan SalonSatellite exhibition

Amelim exhibited at Milan Salon Satellite 2012 with a light and darkness installation. Visitors entered an intimate space sealed off from light where the lighting sculptures cast a warm light for 15 seconds and then all turned off simultaneously. The 15-second cycle allowed the sculptures to self-charge and showcase the glow lighting transformations. They became a network of glow-in-the-dark floating shapes creating sensation of an underwater world. The visitors witnessed a repeating lighting spectacle that also transformed the design and configuration.

The glow-in-the-dark, photo-luminescent feature causes the energy absorbed from a light source to be released as luminescence once the surroundings have darkened. The creation glows in the dark after only a few minutes of charging, the longer the charge the longer the glow.
