The gray dreary winter days in Michigan never seem to end. They tend to drag on endlessly. I often find myself cursing the gloom and allowing it to make me crabby. Some days I don’t even leave the house, and when I do, I rush to do what I have to and get back as quickly as possible.
One day I was talking on the phone with my best friend and she asked me “have you read 50 shades of Grey?” I replied “no, I haven’t. But I should write a book and call it “50 days of gray” based on living in Michigan!
So I created a little project for myself. I set out to photograph 50 gray days. It wasn’t difficult considering there are plenty of them. In doing so, I found that I enjoyed them more. I began looking forward to what I might find in those days that was interesting to me. What is like to look back on fondly and embrace in those dark days of winter.

Christmas lights + Lola = hilarity.

This is the best place in town to get breakfast. I met one of my friends for breakfast that morning.

We bought Lola this hat at Target when we were in Florida for Thanksgiving. They were sold out of them in Michigan. SHOCKER! She may dislike the cold more than me.

Washed and “made” the bed in the spare bedroom for Grandma’s visit for Christmas. Lola decided to christen the bed first.

Waiting to pick up Harp from her last day of school for Christmas break.

First day of Christmas break. She is not wearing lipstick.

I am desperately trying to keep these succulents alive during these cold winter months. I love them so much.
