Dogs are the best security system. They will also keep you healthy because of daily walks, training exercises or even jogging together! And they will always love you unconditionally. yep, I even have a t shirt that says 'This is my dog hair shirt' They also need 'Dog hair is the new Black.' I have a Jack Russell her hair is everywhere. Even in the Dust Rhinos.
I have bad legs so I taught my dog how to close the door. The Cat leaves it open, and the dog closes it.

I can relate to this. Only last night the 2 sausage dogs went in and out of the lounge room about 6 times. They opened the door and I shut it!
This is why I generally just leave the back door open whenever it's not too cold.
Doggy door is an option maybe... although there really ugly to look at. You get your excersize (can't spell)
Our sitch is different. The back garden went Jurassic but its bringing in bees and stuff we hate to cut it down. So it's take the dogs out, etc.

I can't help thinking that dogs were put here to keep us grounded and humble. It's hard to be arrogant when your dog forces you to make stupid noises and roll around on the floor.
