Although anarchist have historically denied the need or importance of symbols, they have naturally developed such of their own. Nowadays anarchism revives around the world, because of anti-globalization movements. Anarchist cultural symbols are more and more widely spread. The Black Flag

Circled Black Flag Symbol

It’s been associated with Anarchism since the 1880’s. Is is in contrast with the colorful flag of each nation. As the white flag stands fo the act of surrender, the counter-opposite black flag would logically be a symbol of defiance and opposition to surrender.

Thed Circled A

This is the most well know symbol of them all. The letter A obviously stands for the first letter of Anarchy, which the same both in Latin and Cyrillic language families, and the “O” stands for order. Together they carry “Anarchy is the mother of Order.” The “@” symbol is often used to represent the circled A.

The Black Rose

As a anarchist symbol this on is among the less popular. It has been rarely used in 1970’s an 1980’s. In various comics and legends it stands for black magic or the dark side of one’s soul

The Brujah Symbol

The symbol represents independence as well as free spirit. It used to serve a clan called by that name, which was famous for having difficulty reaching a consensus on almost anything.

The Black Cat

It is widely spread as a symbol of darkness and evil, although black cats themselves have not always been consider as a symbol of bad luck.

This one has gained popularity just recently. It is a kind of tribute to the pirate way of life and philosophy, because of its freedom and lack of authority.

The Anarcho-capitalist Symbol

Known as The Libertatis Æquilibritas or the latin for “the Equilibrium of Liberty”. It is based on the Circle-A, the yin-yang and the dollar sign.

The Black Cross

Originating from The Anarchist Black Cross Organization, known for it’s goal to eliminate all prisons, the symbols stands for anarchism and defiance of authority. It was called The Anarchist Red Cross, but the name has been changed in order to avoid confusion with the real Red Cross.

The black and yellow or also known as an cap flag. Symbol of anarcho-capitalists and other market anarchists.
